777 In Shotguns:

I finally broke down and purchased some Hogdon 777 in the FFG variety.  I loaded up my Pedersoli 12ga double with about 70 grains of it, over powder card, wonder wad on top of that, 1 1/8 oz of lead 7 1/2 shot, and an over shot wad.  I didn't really paper pattern this load, but instead just went to shooting clay birds and did I ever SMOKE EM.  This stuff really burns clean and loading up again was easy, no soot at all.  No stink when cleaning either.  I think I like this stuff a lot.  I wonder though, why Walmart tries to rob us for it.  I bought it at Scheel's All Sports in Omaha NE for $19.95 and it's around $25 a lb. at Walmart.
It it hurts when you do that then don't do that.

:D   I have the same shotgun.  I use 100 of Goex,or 80 of Swiss in 2f and get the same result.  Both are a lot cheaper than the 777 and with Swiss there will be the same clean up as with the 777.  I try to use a balanced load in all of my shotguns.  That being the shot colum being the same length as the powder colum with an over powder and half inch felt wad on top of that.  I either use hornest material on top of the powder dometimes also and use this for over the shot.  You will also find that these powderes will be a lot easier on yer wallet..........stay safe..........King

 Tried 777 in my H&A rifles, 50cal & 35cal, but still liked the way they shot with Goex!
However, what to do with 5# of 777 FFG?1!!!
I decided to plan to shoot it in my custom H&A 10ga when it arriives. I'm glad to hear that you like the way it shoots & loads in your sxs. I thought  it might be good in the smoothbore, since no conditioning (fouling shot)  would be needed......

BTW, search out Walmart every week after Jan 1, or after your local hunting season is over. Watch the markdowns start. Buy it when you think the price is low enough and there is still some on the shelf.  I bought my 5# off the shelf marked down from $25 or so,  to $17  all the way to $7 per lb.!
