5090,
I'm sorry to hear about your tribulations with your Remington 870 Express Super Mag, but it doesn't surprise me.
I sent the one that I purchased back to the factory repair center 2 times, before selling it and purchasing a Benelli Nova. The stamped parts was the problem with my 870. The shell interceptor on the right side had a burr on it and would catch on the side wall of the receiver not allowing any ammo to be extracted from the magazine and be pumped into the chamber.
All the repair center had to do was unstake the shell interceptor, run a Drimmel tool over it (to grind the burrs off of it) and restake it back into the side wall of the receiver. With the tools available at their service center it would've taken less than 30 minutes.
While my 870 was away for repairs, the second time, I took it upon myself to shop around and see if this was an isolated incident or a common event. At a Cabelas store in Dundee, Michigan, I talked with several guys at the gun counter that were shopping for another brand of shotgun due to simular misfortunes with Remington Express model shotguns. Length or brand of ammo made no difference, where feed jams were concerned.
I'm not posting this as a "bashing" statement. I used to like Remington shotguns because they fit me and have performed well in the past. However, as many of us do, I work hard for my money and expect to get more for it than what I've received with this 870 Express purchase. I would also go as far to say that I'd purchase another 870 IF it was a Wingmaster. The finished internal parts make a world of difference.
Anyway.....I purchased a Benelli Nova and am very happy with it's performance. Full camo, 3 choke tubes, sling studs are standard, easy to maintain and it's priced at $350.00.
Good hunting, Bowhunter57
