Any LONG RANGE pistol shooters out there????
« on: September 09, 2004, 06:02:57 PM »

I am talking rifle type ammo in Encores or custom bolt action pistols. Western style hunting, across canyons or open prairie country for the likes of Pronghorn or mule deer.

I am talking scoped guns when fired from a rest that can put three shots under and inch at 100 yards. I know the revolver is king in the white tale woods but what if that trophy buck antelope is standing at  320 yards and his does mill around him.....could you make the shot when his lady friends leave him unprotected?

I HAVE!

I like to use my Encore pistol for hunting also. I have several different Encore pistol barrels for long range. I have a 22-250, 7mmBR and a 30-06. I have taken a deer with the 30-06 past 100 yards and I use my 22-250  for ground hogs past 200 yards. I have yet to use to 7mmBR for hunting. But I do a lot of long distance shooting with them all at the range.  :D

YEP, been hunting with T/C Contenders, a couple different XP-100's and a Savage Striker chambered for Rifle Cartridges since 1982. My longest shot to date has been right at 300 yards, and was a one shot kill.

Currently I have been hunting with a Super 14 Contender chambered for the .30-30 Ackley Improved. More recently I just obtained a On Target Technologies SS 14" 6mm T/CU Contender Barrel. In fact just this week I finished up the load developement work on the 6mm T/CU. Looks like it may be a keeper.

If you ever get the chance go to one of the linebaugh seminars theres Ive witnessed guys with open sighted revolvers that would make a man real nervous out at 800 yards and though i dont recomend doing it I know that with a day to sit down with one gun and one load to get the sight pic right. Even I could take a deer sized animal out to 300

I routinely shoot at very long distance with all my handguns. I think it is a hoot to hit a 9 inch gong at 500 yards with a handgun any handgun. I have found that for many specialty handgun shooters the hittin' at long range isn't a problem but many of them, me included, feel that there is a large error margin in the killin' at those extended ranges. I don’t shoot at meat that far but have no problem with those that do.  :-)
