Mine is 58 year old left-handed male that shoots RVs, Marlin and 97.  This way I should place, maybe, hopefully, if I'm lucky.

What are yours, bring 'em on

One handgun, one rifle. Would open CAS up alot quicker for tenderfoots.
Also would be very period correct, clothing could be RED longhandles,
bibbed overalls,hat and boots.

The Western 3 gun folks hav a 'Rolling Thunder' category. Gotta be over 300 lbs. to compete. Now add arthritis and bad knees as a requirement for the category and I might be competitive!

I'd like to see a class for a single sixshooter and allow full 5 reload with it to
complete a ten shot pistol stage. We tried it in our area and it doesn't take all the much time and I think I would enjoy that myself. I would shoot it duelist and with BP. Well, it will never happen, but you did ask.

Well since you asked;  actually, I am a newbie to CAS and have neither shot in an event nor attended a complete event yet.  So, anything I know about CAS is strictly based on what I have read on the various forums.

I would like to see a class that does not require two handguns; from what I have read it seems that all classes do require two handguns.  I think the two handgun vision is one that is the product of the western movies of the 30's and 40's.  I find this requirement to be out of touch with the typical working cowboy of the old west.  Almost none of them carried two handguns at the same time, and of those did, their second gun was usually a small one; what we call a "pocket gun" today.  The picture of someone with matching handguns just wouldn't have fit the needs and the budget of most of those cowboys.

Perhaps this issue has been thoroughly discussed years ago in CAS and there were what seemed to be valid reasons for the requirement.  I think it more correct however to realize that the typical cowboy had six shots in his handgun and then had to reload.  And while I don't think this is the purpose of the rule, I am sure that the requirement of two handguns discourages some folks from joining in the fun.

Just my two cents,

John

Honestly, I'd like to see them reduce the number of catagories by 1/2 to 2/3.  Sometimes it seems that part of the initiation to CAS is to get something added or changed.
The day some Florida nimrod assesed me a procedural because I didn't shoot the dirt where the target had been before it fell over was the day I started looking for another club to shoot with.  As far as I'm concerned stupidity and guns is just as dangerous as drugs/alcohol and guns.  If I had wanted to shoot dirt I could do it without starting my day at 2 am so I could be done with work and make the two hour drive to be there in time for the safety briefing.

JR,

NCOWS already has a Working Cowboy catagory....one pistol, one rifle, reloads on the clock, no scattergun, scored only against itself. 8)

Snake River Cowboy:

"Butler-
If you didn't shoot where the target was, where did you shoot it?"

10 targets, 1 falls, leaves 9 targets to engage with 10 bullets.  Mighty simple and it doesen't include shooting at dirt piles.

Now don't throw rocks at me but is there a rimfire class in CAS. I might like to try it someday and I have the 22s, but Don't want to invest in more appropriate guns till I know what I'm getting into.

There are some clubs that'd welcome you and your 22's at their monthly matches for a while so you could make a decision and gather up what you needed if (when ) you decide you like it.
