Well, I like a matte finish on a scope, it's less likely to slip in the rings than a gloss scope, and that matters when it's riding on top of a 454. In my experience, hunting shots are often at close range, with a limited amount of time to make the shot, and a heavy duplex would be great for that kind of shooting. It'll also be easier to see in different lighting conditions. It might hurt your score on long range paper targets, but not by much. Give it an honest try, and if you don't like it, get a different crosshair installed later on. It doesn't cost much, and I doubt you'll want to change, anyway, after you try hunting with the heavy duplex.
