To give even more credibility, you can post a target with multiple groups to show that it wasn't just a fluke that you shot a good one. Here's a target that I shot with my CZ 452 Varmint for the Park's Prove-It website. Click on the picture to see it full size if it doesn't come up easy to see in your browser.

Jason,

Thanks for posting a target - That's good shooting at 50 yards.  I like to see what folks say they can do (however I'm not from Missouri).

I've run into some CZ 452 Varmits in competition.  Most are great buys for the accuracy you can obtain!  A friend has one but he's had problems with that barrel mounting screw - It seems his is very sensitive to the torque on the screw and sunlight on the barrel.  I assume "Floated barrel" means you got around that screw mount?  If so please share with me and I'll pass it on.

PS: You make a good point on multiple groups but my guess is that there won't be many targets posted.

The best thing I did to help that 452 Varmint's accuracy was to get rid of that barrel lug and screw and sand away just a little wood on the right side to make the barrel fully floated. For a one-screw design, the 452's not bad. I went ahead and glass bedded the action just to make sure it was solid enough to support that heavy barrel being fully floated.

Ray I will be posting pics when I get the ammo I need to shoot them small groups. I want to try 22 mag Remingon Premium in my Henry yet and I need to get some wolf for my Romanian. All my fun money is gone for this month as I bought a 3 dot red dot sight for my crossbow and one of Darrels mounts for my K31. What few bucks I have left I am saving for the annual large gun show at the end of the month.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

Maybe some of these posts should be moved to the humor forum. I've been getting a few laughs from some of them.

The T/C Contender Carbine in 22 LR is capable of some fine shooting but the price may be just a bit over your top figure. Most T/C barrels can shoot tight groups. The only drawback might be the light weight for offhand shooting.

What hosting site are you useing for your pics? I just click on the IMG button and then cut and paste the URL for the picture then hit the IMG button again that usually works for me.

Box stock Anschutz 1710KL.  100yds 5 shot group.  the pasters were used to block off someone else's group.  Wasn't actually shooting for groups, was ammo testing.

Re-read the post and noted that you were excluding Anschutz' and other due to price.  Sorry for the earlier post of my Anschutz groups.  Just disregard.
Thanks,

Most accurate .22 rimfire
« Reply #68 on: July 27, 2005, 02:44:07 AM »
The most accurate .22 rimfire I have owned has been my Remington 541S. It will consistantly put 5 shots neatly into one hole at 50 yards. On a good day with no wind, it will put 5 shots neatly into one hole at 100 yards with selected match ammo.

I have owned a Weatherby Mark XXII that was also a tackdriver using Winchester Mark III ammo.

I currently own a T/C carbine with match T/C barrel that is fairly accurate.
Boy I wish I hadn't sold that Weatherby - nice looing gun to boot.

I'm with GB, old Remingtons are great! My model 34, made in 1935, can shoot with the best of them. With history and grace.
Thanks to you''uns from WNC,

I just bought 10/22 and it shoots about 2.5 to 3" at 100 yards.  I tried a couple of different types of ammo.  I spent another $250 on a target BBl and new stock. I have over $400 in this rifle and not sure if it will shoot.  Next time I will save a little longer and buy a higher quality rifle.  At least it will give me something to fiddle with on the weekends.
I have owned at least 5 centerfire rifles remington and winchester and could get all of them to shoot under and inch at 100 yards, sometimes with reloads, sometimes with factory ammo. Owned a marlin 22 mag it was in the 3" range at 100 yards.

I have built 5 10/22's with commercially available parts and high powered scopes. They shot very well easily under 1" @ 100 yrds. Untill I bought a CZ I would have sworn nothing could be more accurate.
I have a customized Marlin Squrrel that is a close second in accuracy. This gun got loads of testing and shot better than ANY rifle I could locate. again 3/4" groups @ 100yrds.  (Picture below is from 50yrds.)

As of now, my CZ 452 with the LONG 29" barrel is hands down the most accurate 22LR I own. One benifit I REALLY like is the way it shoots CCI  "CB LONG" bullets. They are all but silent!! If you shoot carefully (accurately at the head) they work wonderfully for garden raiding woodchucks!! I got one a couple years back, that was about 20#, and as big as a basketball in diameter.
Last weekend, I bought a new scope. So I swapped some scopes around and found that this gun will consistantly shoot three shot groups less than 1/2 MOA with a 3X9 AO Leupold scope. My gun really likes the RWS Rifle and CCI Subsonic rounds. When I am careful, shooting over sand bags front and back I can almost keep them touching at 100 yrds!

My vote is for the CZ 452 22LR rifle.
