Are you all set for the upcoming Season?
« on: September 14, 2004, 03:46:34 AM »
I was just wondering, how many are all ready for this season?
Are your traps all dipped or dyed and waxed? Are your permissioons all secured? Are all the loose ends tied up?
I myself ,will not get my traps ready till after my convention season is done. I hope we are going to have a nice Indian Summer. It is so much more pleasurable getting traps ready when the temps are in the 60's and 70's than the 30's and 40's.

In a word No.That doesn't mean I won't be ready.I'm going back to lye,dye and wax.Ma is going to do the main lines.I'm not going to run 3 counties with 4 lines this year. Will stick fairly close to home and hit the cream of the crop locations.I hope I'm strong enough to go south to the Missouri Breaks and trap cats during the cat season.I hope we get an Alberta Clipper about every 3 or 4 days to get the fur moving.Looks like we may have some fox to the west of us.Good luck and God bless guys.
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning. It smells like victory!!

Ready?  Never started getting ready so early before!  [august]!
No, I'm not actually ready but sure am working on it,  every day.                                Getting in new {used} traps & tuning them up,  as scarce as the old money supply is...  getting snares, and chain too.  As the weather is begining to turn,  exercise is what we really need.  I told old Red that if she took me to town,  we would go by the used bread store for some treats.        Sandymay my Walker hound is asleep on her couch in the bedroom.     She just needs to go hunting more.

Laying in a good supply of bait, organizing the fur shed and knife shop,  Mostly cleaning up picking up and putting up.  Looking for my fence pliars and such, I know they are here somewhere.  The fur buyer says it will be a good year.

Seems like I am always ready on opening day but I have lots to do yet, some projects are at a stop until I get more supplys at the Valintine convention, and there I always pick up more ideas and have more to do. Jeff

going to try dipping again this year...but haven't got that accomplished yet. I also need to transfer some more dry dirt from my barrel to the 1-gallon milk jugs I carry it in.
I also need to get out a walk a lot more. I huff and puff way more than I'd like to, so I really need to focus on working on my conditioning now also.
I do have everything else ready though.

Heck no, never am till the very last minute.  But I do have all my traps dyed.  Now just need to fix 330s and make more snares and stakes.

Coyotero I hope you get a few of them clippers too.  In fact I hope you get every darn one of them.  I dont know about there but when they come through here it gets darn cold and miserable.

I got one of those 110 wire welders last winter and have been busy all spring and summer makeing stakes, drags, laminating and base-plating traps. Put up a lot of  bait and have been experimenting with homemade lures. Of course I also have been buying commercial lures as well. Just started making some extra snares and drowning cables. I guess I'm about as ready as person can be. Hope everyone has a really good season. Worm

dipped the traps this weekend, and prepped some more dry dirt. Hot windy day helped with the dry dirt supply around here.
combines have started up around here...leveling the corn and bean fields. saw a fox on way in to work last Friday, too. fall is a great time of year.
