Now that the ban is gone....

How long will it take until the handgun manufactures starting making high capacity handguns and have them available to us?

They already make high capacity handguns, you just need the high capacity mags.  :D  Just go to you local gun shop and get the guns they have marked for law enforcement only.  :grin:

Excuse me gentlemen I am sure what you meant to say was "normal capacity" magazines instead of "reduced capacity" magazines.

Normal capacity magazines were only available to LEOs now anyone can buy them. They were made in limited numbers though. Once the magazines manufacturers start cranking out the normal capacity mags the prices should drop. Prices should REALLY drop on the reduced capacity mags.

Did you understand what we were talking about?  :roll: I guess after 10 years low capacity mags were the norm.... :eek:

Yep, I know what you are talking about. I just would like to hear and see everyone refer to over 10 round magazines as normal capacity magazines. If your handgun is made to take 15 round mags than that is normal capacity. A mag that holds over that and sticks out the bottom of the gun is high capacity. Anything below the normal is reduced capacity. I'm just tired of the PC BS concerning magazine capacity.

Didn't mean to offend anyone - but lets call them what they are.

Interesting discussion.  I have do confess that I didn't expect the conversation to move in this direction.  

I think of high capacity magazines as being those that staggered the rounds for increased capacity -- this opposed to the traditional straight line mags of 7 or so rounds.  I still remember being so impressed in the mid '80s that a 9mm handgun could hold 14 to 17 rounds.  Up to that time, the handguns I shot had half that capacity.  I guess I see the straight line mags as "normal" or "standard".  

So, what is the proper terminology for the various types of magazines?

It's legal to buy LEO magazines now, so those are already in the pipe.  CZ, for one, has full-capacity mags available for the CZ-75/85.  They're $37 each.  Mec-gar told me that there's a boat coming from Italy in about a week with lots of mags on it, including ones for my CZ-85, at $26 each.  Since the CZ is the only over-ten pistol I own, that's the only one I've looked into.  I did hear that Taurus is offering free full-capacity mags for folks that bought Taurus handguns during the ban.  I also heard that the phone lines at Taurus are staying pretty busy.

Well, compared to five or six rds. in a revolver, 7 or 8 rds. in a 1911 or 13 rds. in a HiPower is high capacity.

Maybe a little off subject, but I am interested to see if higher capacity mags will be made for some of the guns that were produced after the ban. These guns never had mags available that were over 10 rounds. Guns like 9mm carbines that have only been available as 10 shots would be lots of fun with 30 round mags. I am also waiting to see if the 10 round reduced capacity mags start selling dirt cheap - they are fine for the range.

The current production guns will most likely have mags coming out from aftermarket manufacturers. I look for Ramline (Blount) to jump on the band wagon with some good mags. I'm sure they have the tooling and moulds left from previous magazine production and I hope to see them by Christmas. Right on target Cknight98, a drum magazine would be awesome for the 10/22 and so would be a hand crank for a gattling gun. All these goodies that we've been deprived of can now be had.......whooopie! Maybe now that the Food & Drug Administration realized that anti-depressants in children are more dangerous than Squirrel hunting with 30 rounds of ammunition, Uncle Sam will let us have our hobby back.

Natchez has Glock and other "Normal" capacity magazines for sale for ~20 bucks each, and the reduced capacity magazines are even cheaper at about 15 bucks.  Go to nachezss.com to check out the selection.  I'm sure Dillon, Brownells, and some of the other places will have them available soon as well.  

The gun store I go to has some normal capacity mags, but are asking a premium for them still.  I expect in another month or so, after the initial surge in sales, the price will steady out.

Don't hold your breath waiting for the prices to go down. Manufacturers are in business to make money, not give you a deal. They know what high cap. mags are currently bringing on the auction sites and they will price their's accordingly.

That may be true for a short time, But once all the manufacturers get into full production and the market gets flooded with everyone trying to get on the band wagon, the law of supply and demand will kick in and competition will drive the prices down.  :D

I hope you are right but it might take many years and while refinements take the place of the last production runs, I really can't see the prices coming down any time soon.

To answer the original question:
They are available now. I bought 4 for my 2011 from STI for $60.00 each. I also have (leftover from the drought) a number of "aftermarket" 12 round mags that are so unreliable as to make them worthless for practice, nevermind carrying them. I don't expect the price for magazines from the gun manufacturers to come down much in response to a glut of "aftermarket" mags.

I was at the gun shop today and he got a shipment of Springfields handguns, and they all had 15 round mags without the law enforcement stamp. So the gun makers are shipping them out already or at least Springfield is.  :D

Prices: After the Ban

Supply and Demand, blah blah. Well, the prices went up and up after the ban on so many listed items. Now, the buyers are wanting the items and the sellers certainly don't want to give them away if they sell them at all. The manufacturers can make parts available if they churn them out, but the idea of pre-ban prices (adjusted for inflation) is not going to happen?
