XS Scout Scope Mount
« on: September 15, 2004, 11:11:50 PM »
I would like to hear thoughts on these mounts if any one is using them or has used them.  They look good.  I will probably put a red dot scope on one.  I would like to hear from anybody with a similar set up.  It's going on a 35 Rem.  How do they affect the guns handling?

I used a forward mount scope years ago on a post war 94 and it worked great. The scope was a Leupold M-8 2X non critical eye reilief. I think as long as the scope is small its a good thing but would not want to do it with a conventional sized scope. Will make the rifle front heavy. Cheers. POW

I use one on a Marlin 1895 Guide Gun in .45-70. Scope is a Leupold M8- 2.5x28 IER Scout with their QRW quick release rings.

It's solid...feels like the scope, mount and rifle are all one piece. I've had no trouble with it.

I like it well enough to put one on a Marlin 1894S .44 mag. when it gets here on Friday from Cabelas.

I think you will like yours.

Just thought I should warn you that i had a little trouble with mine.  I put a Leupold Scout scope setup on my 1895G and it worked really good at first.  I used the warne QD rings and after a few times of on and off the rings had to be tightened a little more each time. I found that the repeated tightening started to twist the mount and the scope body.  It did it enough that the scope bent a little and the crosshairs broke inside.

I set it back to Leupold and they fixed the scope but the mount never seemed to go back as tight as when I first put it together.  I ended up putting the scope on my Encore slug gun and putting the mount in a box somewhere.

If I were you I would not use any kind of qd rings with this mount.

Rscout although I don't use the Warne rings that's a lot of damage. It takes a fair amount of pressure to do what you describe. What procedure did you use?
