JDJ velocities in carbine lengths?
« on: September 16, 2004, 12:52:11 PM »
I posted this over in the handgun forum, but didn't
get any response. Maybe someone here has some info?

Does anyone know where data for velocities for JDJ loads may be found in carbine lengths? I am most interested in the 6.5, 6.5MD, and 309?

Thanks much,
PA

P.S. I know an Encore may be a better choice for a rifle, and I am debating between the two, just trying to understand my contender options. There are pros and cons to both, including that here in CA the only handgun option is the contender (bought used from in-state)

I've got an SSK (of course) 20"carbine barrel in 309 JDJand Here are some loads, none of which are max, but it is my most accurate rifle although it only weighs 6 1/2 lbs loaded w/a sling.

My 150 gr Ballistic Tip goes 2560 fps and
220 gr Sierra RN (don't ask)  2217 fps.  I was going to use this for a backup gun on a NH moose hunt, but didn't need it

375 JDJ?

I just bought a 23" 375 jdj barrel. All I can find is some pistol data. I have some Hornady 225 FP I want to try. I also have some RL-7 on hand. Anyone use this combo? I also want to try some H-322. I guess I should expect about 200 FPS faster in a carbine length barrel.

:D I had the same question concerning loads and velocity increase for a 23" 7-30 Waters and about 200 fps is right in line with info I got from one of the techs at Sierra.

GOTN,

My Speer reloading manual (latest edition 13th??) has
data for the 7-30 Waters in a rifle. I don't have the manual
infront of me, but can post some of the loads next week.

I'm pretty sure there was about a 300fps increase from the
pistol to rifle with some of the loads they had, pretty much in
line with what the tech told ya.
