I use carbons for target shooting and hunting for the last 10 years or so, carbons tend to be straighter  fly a lot better and stay in one piece longer. I have carbons for my vert compounds and for my Excal xbows. These are my Carbon Express and Gold Tips, I also have another 40 Bemon shafts for 3D shoots.

I shoot both, but have found that the carbons hold up better.  It seems that no matter how careful I am with aluminum, I eventually end up putting a slight bend in them.  It doesn't happen with carbons.  They are either straight or broke, and so far the only broke ones I have had took a terrible beating before they got that way.

And I agree, onlything to watch out for with carbon on game is a once in awhile shattered bolt, this will mess up the meat in that area and should be cut out (carbon splinters) The Carbon is better in the fact it is either broke or it's good.

I shoot aluminum for the simple reason I buy them used at garage sales and on clearance racks and cut them down and refletch  and renock them to make my own bolts. Instead of averaging 5 bucks a bolt for new ones  they cost me around $ 1.50 a bolt. Jim

jh45gun I do that also and use them for stump shooting and bushy tails, however for 3-D and deer I am now 100% carbon lazer gold tips with 100gr SlickTrick broadheads.

I'm shooting aluminum mostly because I had a couple of dozen on hand when I switched to the crossbow so I just cut them down to 20" and refletched them. Have not decided if I'll go to carbons when these are gone.

If they shoot good for you than that is what I would stick with. My bolts shoot as well as I can hold them so I have no complaints.    Plus on my limited income I have to save and cut corners as best as I can so I can afford to do the hunting and shooting that I do which is a lot considering  I hunt and shoot a lot. Dang gas prices will cut into my fun some though this year. Jim

:(  yeh tell me about them gas prices. I too am on SSI and cut all the corners I can. I do computer repair and set ups on the side and pick up a few greens that way. I watch the backyard sells and pick up any alum. arrows I can find, and like you cut them down and refletch. I have a good number of redone bolts in the 2213-2219's...and yep I use them. Keep the carbons for special use. :)
