209 primer stuck to firing pin on rem 700

Problem could be too soft a primer.  Try changing brands.  Another source of the problem could be the shape of the firing pin end.  Should be rounded.  Lastly, how heavy a charge are you using?

I think I'd just come off the $30.00 for a factory conversion kit and be done with it. Reduce my "tinkring" time and get it back to the range

Hey I understand. I'm not one to leave well enough alone myself. My Rem 700 ML was one of the first ones made and also has a gun smith 209 conversion. Fortunately I haven't had any problems with mine's ignition only with the function of the rifle but that's another story.

Well, I rounded out the firing pin and added a floor spacer to the bottom of the cup around the firing pin. I used a .30 cal carbine head as the spacer.  after some tweeking, this left about .030 of the pin exposed. The primers with no charge detonated and fell right out after opening the bolt. The charged loads functioned well too but as before, the back presure was blowing the primer loose from the cup. However, the floor spacer was doing its job, holding the primer from blowing back around the firing pin.
Looks like I can get some follow up shots now.

Frog, could you tell me some of the problems you had with your 700?
