B/F. Arms
« on: September 17, 2004, 09:45:17 AM »
I have a chance to purchase a B. F. Arms .22 lr.. This is a single shot Silhouette piece. It is in 99% condition and the asking price is $180.00.  I know nothing about it, and was wondering if anyone could tell me how good this gun is and also is this priced right.

Joe, the BF comes from E Arthur Brown and is an extremely accurate gun.  A brand new one starts at $700 and goes up from there.  For $180 I would grab it in a second.

Well if it isn't broken or stolen it is a very low price.

I want to thank both of you for replying. I found the E. A. Brown web site and this gun is not pictured there. It carries about a 10" heavy barrell and the grips do not have finger grooves. I knew the man who owned it although I did not know he had it at the time. He has passed away and this must have been purchased shortly before his death. His family took all of his guns and equiptment to a gun shop and that is where I saw it. I'm not sure about the time of the purchase all we ever discussed was his Silhouette big bore guns. Not even sure if this has been fired. Since it is not on the Brown site I'm assuming it is an older model, probably less than the $700.00 starting price. I'm going to get it any way and when I do if you like I will try to post a picture of it. It just seemed to be of such good quality I wanted to find out more about it.

.Thanks for your help,
Lucky Joe

If they have all of his guns priced like that, I would buy them all!!  Excellent gun and even better price!!

FWIW there is a Wichita Arms still there I believe it is in the 7BR. It is the model with a grip frame somewhat like a 1911. Can't remember the price, when I get back there tomorrow or the next day I will look.

Is it perhaps a Merrill?

akihmsa,

I'm pretty sure it is a B. F. Arms from E. A. Brown. Although I can not find a picture of it on the net. I did find some Merrill's on Gunbroker and this B. F. is a falling block action where the Merrill's were break actions. I'm still looking for more information on this piece. I will probably put it in lay away tomorrow.

Thanks for the reply.

My guess that the Wichita is actual a 7 Int Rimmed.  Sorta like a shortened 7-30 waters.  Top velocity will be around 2100fps with 120gr bullets.  Around here you can expect about $375-425 for them used.  Trigger and sights are usually excellent.  If it is a 7 Int Rimmed, make sure you get the reloading dies as part of the purchase as they run you about $85 - 100 from redding.

Man I hope you picked up that pistol when you had the chance! Sounds to me that it is an original BF! They were the ones made before E. Arthur Brown bought the rights. I saw a matched pair at a gun show here in Portland, OR a few weeks back and sumthin like $5.000 + if I'm not mistaken. I hope that os what it is and you got it bud!  :toast:

It's an original BF. I have one as you described in caliber 32-20.
