Hey guys, I havent been around for a while. Anyhow, in PA, it is legal to use a rimfire revolver for small game hunting. Even the smiths with the 10 shot cylinders.
But, I cant use my MKII with a red dot, bull barrel and 10 round mag. I dont get it.

It seems odd too, but keep in mind that Pennsylvania has not allowed the use of an autoloading action for hunting big or small game since the 1930's.

I may be wrong but I think autoloaders can be used on vermin. But this isn't anything new.

Be glad you can use a pistol at all. In Delaware you can not use any pistols or revolvers for any hunting.    We are trying to change that, but the department of natural resources and game wardens do not want us to use pistols for hunting.  :x  :x

I wonder why such a negative attitude on the part of the fish and game? New England is a bit different in the fact that southern New England( Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island) tend to be more liberal or left of the center than northern New England( Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont)

In northern New England, you can hunt any small or large game with a handgun ,except of waterfowl and turkey. In Massachusetts, you can use a handgun for everything except deer, turkey and waterfowl. Same for Connecticut. Rhode Island flatly prohibits it for anything.

I asked a Connecticut warden why can't one hunt on private land with something like a TC. His reply was that they would have trouble enforcing the tresspass laws. People could hunt on land without proper permission  by concealing a handgun.

To me it is a lame excuse. People will do it anyways.

I've lived in NJ, MD, NY, PA, IN, and PA.  Other than the ban on semi autos for hunting PA was the best state to live in for a gunowner, IN is not bad either but doesn't have any mountains  :( .  I can't even get a handgun carry permit at all in IL where I live now.  At least IL did change the law last year to allow handgun hunting for deer in the regular firearms season.   We used to have to wait for the January antlerless only season.

No semi-automatic anything is allowed in Pennsylvania for hunting, handgun or rifle.

Ya wanna talk about stupid regulations?  In Illinois you can't hunt DEER with a RIFLE!  Shotguns only.  My Marlin 336 is pi$$ed!   :x

In WV, they don't have many restrictions at all. The only ones I'm aware of is handgun must have at least a 4" barrel and no handgun smaller than .357 magnum can be used for deer or bear.

The only semi auto legal for hunting in PA is a shotgun. And only in the spec regs areas.

Yea, pa. is a little weird when it comes to their regulations. Ya can't hunt with a semi rifle or handgun but ya can use any centerfire cartridge for deer. No muzzle energy or caliber restrictions. A 22 Hornet is ok but a 9mm Parabelum is taboo :)

Here's another stupid law in Louisiana.  If you hunt with a shotgun, it must have a plug in it to limit the magazine to hold two rounds.  This is not just for migratory birds but anything; squirrels, rabbits, deer, even crows.  There are NO limitations on rifle capacity.  If I wanted to hunt coyotes with my AR with a 40 round mag that would be perfectly legal.

As I see it, most regulations have been made by bureacrats who have no practical experience or first hand knowledge.
