WHAT AND HOW MANY MARLINS DO YOU OWN?
« on: September 17, 2004, 09:15:11 PM »
Just a curious question!  I'm proud to own several Marlins. Hard to beat for the money. I've got a 782 that I bought new that was my introduction to the Marlin. Have two 60's one with the 22in and a new one with the shorter barrel, also have a 17v  will hit anything that it's pointed at and my newest and now my most cherised golden 39A. What Marlins do you have , I know that they are not PERFECT but damit you got to love em.  :-)

All my Marlins are of the lever action type. Golden 39A, 1897T, 1897CB, and 1897CL. The only centerfire Marlin I own is a Sears marked 336 in .30-30 that was my late dad's deer rifle. They aren't perfect, but all are well made, solid rifles. And they are fun to shoot.

336 in 35 Rem with a Williams peep, 1897 CB soon to be set up with a Marbles Tang and Lyman 17a front sight.  Lusting for a 1897T after I've seen how good the CB shoots.

Don't want to rain on your picnic, but my 1897CB shoots better than my 1897T. May just be me or could be the 4" longer barrel on the CB allows for a steadier hold.

Medbill;

Actually I would sell it in a heartbeat, but my grandson wants it. And I know you wouldn't want to break a kid's heart.

BTW; Did you buy the sights from Firstshot? He's a good guy. I don't really understand his only favoring one gun at a time, but it would certainly simplify life. :)

One gun at a time...
« Reply #7 on: September 19, 2004, 06:05:04 AM »
I think the last time I ever did that was when I was a kid and had no money.  My one gun was Ted Williams 880 Powerline air rifle with a gold receiver.  The gun that started it all.  Since then its been all downhill.

Totally understand about hangin onto the Texan for your Grandson, thats very admirable, we need more grandparents like you and more kids that are into shooting like your grandson!

Yes I did buy Firstshot's sights, real nice guy to shoot the breeze with.  Can't wait till they get here so I can get at it with them.  What ammo does your CB shoot best?  I was thinking of ordering a scope base from brownells to put on temporarily just to test ammunition with a scope mounted on it for next year's matches.

I have quite a few Marlins and have a hard time keeping track of them all.
Lets see... I'll start off with the semiauto .22's :model 60's-8,89C-3,88-1,70P-1,989G-1,99M1-1,99M2-1,75C-2,mod.50-1,A1C-1,and others I can't remember.Bolt actions: 15YN-2,25N-2,25NM-2,25MB-2,25MG-1,80-2,80C-1(NIB),80DL-1,81DL-2,100-1,100G-1,101 crown Prince-1,882-1. Lever actions:39A-1,56-1,444-1,and I think thats it.I know I have a bunch more around here someware.I'll have to start looking around this place and sort out the junk and revise the list.

Well, I dont really own the Marlin I have, it was given to me by my dad. Its an 85 Model 60, and will hold 18 rounds with  in the chamber for 19. Sweet gun, I love it. I would like to try out one of those ATI Fiberforce stocks on it, would be very cool, and handy I would imagine.

Didn't own any till last week.  Got the bug for a new plinker and went to the local gun shop.  (Not wallyworld).  Looked at a few small caliber rifles and decided on the 917VSL.  Its a beauty with the stainless hardware and a light to dark cinnamin laminate stock.  A real eye catcher.  Put silver scope rings on her with a black matte scope.  Looks terrific, now if she'll shoot for me.  Haven't had time to get to the range yet...I'm hoping this weekend.  Now if I can just get the wife to stop screaming at me for buying yet another gun :toast:

Glad to find a site that regards the marlins so well!  I'm still mourning the loss of the old MarlinTalk site.

My little collection is somewhat Marlin-heavy, but I like them.
1.  Model A1 auto loader.
2.  Model 88 auto loader.
3.  Model 60SB.
4.  Model 99M1.
5.  Model 80DL (fitted with Lyman 57 rear site and a globe front).
6.  Model 39A lever-action (with Marble tang peep sight).
7.  Model 25MN.
8.  Model 17V.

The 25MN and 17V are setup with identical scopes, and have nearly identical stocks.  The only real difference is the 17V's heavier barrel.
Gonna get the 917 in .17HM2 soon as I find a local source for ammo.

9.  I also have a pretty decent 336 in .30-30.  My first true "deer rifle".

39A -- williams receiver sight. tak-driver
81DL -- original peep sights. tak-driver
75 Carbine (Mod.60). tak-driver
Mod. 60 ("parts gun" for the 75 that up and decided to shoot good.)
Looking at an older Mod. 25 bolt, just cause it's so cheap and I found a clip for a 25 at a garage sale (Is that the worst excuse to buy another rimfire, or what?) :P

I've got a model 60 & a model 99M1, the M1 is the best handling & sweetest shooting rim-fire I own. It shoots almost, not quite, as accurately as my bull-barrel Ruger
Please write me off of GB outdoors, I do not want to be a part of it any more.

Deactivated as requested.

2.) Model 39A

3.) Model 1894 .44 Magnum

Easy for you Bill.  See my post in Huntsman Muzzleloaders (wife and Huntsman, neither let me down).  Sorry to say, most of the women in my family (wife, sisters, sisters-in law, etc.) are pretty anti-gun.  They have all the usual lame arguments :) .  They all gave up on trying to "convert" me, they know better.  They started to work on my two boys, ie, guns are bad, guns kill people, etc., etc.  It inspired me to go out and buy them each their own, a .410 for the 8 y.o. and a 20 ga. for the 11 y.o. We shoot together all the time and love it.

I have a Marlin 882SS which I have relaced the synthetic stock with a brown laminate. I mounted a Tasco World Class 3-9x40 and a nice sling.  That is the only Marlin I have for now but plan to get a lever gun soon.  :D

I have two Marlins, a centerfire and a rimfire

The centerfire is a model 336 chambered in 35 Rem. I recently refinished the stock and that REALLY brought the grain out. Topped it off with a Swift Premier 1-4.5X scope and it is putting them out there pretty accurately. It especially likes Remington 150g Cor-Locts if you can find them.

The rimfire is a 917V in 17HMR. It has a bed job, trigger job, and black refinished stock with low gloss. This gun will throw the bullets into 1/2" at 100 yards if I do my part. Serves as a small varmint gun.

Good Shootin'
