SAVAGE ?
« on: September 19, 2004, 01:50:38 PM »
A friend of mine showed me his SAVAGE 110 tactical HEAVY BARREL .223,and everything this guy has is for sale. I was wanting to know from anybody here who knows or can look it up. I have looked online and in my SHOOTERS BIBLE with no success. This rifle is a 2001/2002 as it does not have the accutrigger. Also does this rifle have 1:9 twist rate? I need to know what it is worth, and it does say TACTICAL on the bolt. Any help from you guys here would be appreciated greatly.     THANKS!!!!

BBThis is about all I can offer.

http://www.savagearms.com/110fp.htm

This is their suggested retail for a new one.  Did you look for any at the various auction sites?

These are VERY accurate rifles, but heavy too.

By the way, if it says Model 110 it is farily old.  Newer Savages in the short action ar model 10, long action is 110.

Just realized that part so the link up above is not the actual rifle you need.  Look for the model 10.

Look at the rifles listed with Savage and find the closest.  Is it stainless?  Etc.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

The law enforcement series 10FP in 223 has a 1-9" twist. This is designed for heavy .224 bullets. But shoot ok with lighter bullets too. Price is $572 Fred M.

As was mentioned it has the 1-9 twist barrel.
I have shot everything from 45 gr to 69 gr. bullets with no problem.
I really enjoy this rifle! It is scary accurate.
Originally bought it for factory class Br competetion but shoot it much more than that.

Now that i think about it it was a model 10 ,and the metal finish was matte black and said TACTICAL on the bolt next to the SAVAGE logo. The rifle barrel was really heavy with a recessed target crown. Thanks for your help so far guys. I"m going to keep looking, and the closest i can find so far is the LAW ENFORCEMENT edition, but the bolt on this said TACTICAL.

Also what would be a fair price for this rifle in used condition? It also has on top of it a Simmons whitetail 6-20x50 A.O. Thanks again guys.

BullB, I have the scope you mentioned. I bought it brand new a year or so ago on sale from SWFA for $99.95. I believe they still have them for that price. Mine has worked out great, no problems, clear and bright....<><....

I helped a kid at the Range get a 10FP sighted in for prairie dog hunting a few weeks ago. He had the same scope you mention.
I think he said he gave $350 used for it.
Of course this could vary based on the market in your area.

The Walmart Special order catalog lists this rifle as"Police/Tactical".
And around $460 new.

I am tempted to buy another with the accu-trigger( mine does not have).

Thank you guys, and this is what i like about this site. Someone could ask a boneheaded question, and you fine gentlemen will do your best (even research into it) to help someone out. You guys ROCK!!!

Another question . Will a  new brand name target trigger bring this older SAVAGE up to specs with the new ACCU-TRIGGER? And also what brand(adjustable) trigger?

Mine has a homegrown trigger job, ok but should have a Sharpshooter Competetion installed. Rifle Basix & Sharpshooters Supply make triggers for a Savage. Both good I understand.
& the Sharpshooters Competetion can be brought down as low as 4oz.
You can`t do that with an accutrigger!

I really don`t know what FP stand for unless it`s finest production Rifle available?

Those 10FP's are tack drivers, but when my Ultra shoots as well as it does, it will out do me.  It makes it hard for me to justify trying to move up.  plus it's a whole lot lighter.

The Savage will handle a much wider range of bullets though.  people worry about the flimsy stocks, but it is dual pillar bedded and makes ragged holes at 100yds so just how accurate is someone gonna be when hunting with it?

picked up a "like new" 10fp 223 (non-accu,made in 10/02)this spring at a local show. got it for $280 OTD, with scope bases.

put a Simmons Aetec on it, and I've got one heck of a shooter for a $450 investment.

pre-accu model triggers can be easily adjusted.
set mine at 3#.

I think my 10FP weighed 8lbs before I put a scope & mounts on it.
That is the reason I got the SB2 Hornet as a light carry/Calling rifle.

I had a Timney trigger installed in my nephew's 110 chambered for .308 as a graduation gift to him. Outstanding product at a reasonable price.

If you are looking at a non accutrigger used Savage you should probably look at one of the new Stevens rifles.  Exact same thing except no accutrigger.  They only have the plastic stock and limited chamberings, but they are just as accurate and start at about $280 new I think.  I have a Walmart Savage 10 that I rebarreled to 17 Remington, sporter wieight barrel, it will shoot groups like the one below all day starting from a cold barrel.  Larry
