Black Powder Storage Container
« on: January 20, 2003, 06:31:22 AM »
Does anyone know where information can be found about storage containers?  I know they are not supposed to be strongly built, but what constitutes "not strongly built"?  Is drywall adequate for a liner?

I use a morter box to store mine in.  I seen one last weekend that a feller made to store 50# of the Holly Black in (approved by the ATF) was made from 3/16" sheet steel on ALL sides with 2  5 pin key locks. the inside is 3/4" wood but no nails or screws used, just lap and seal with cilicone?
Size was about 12'hx24'dx24'w hope this helps

Howdy Pard,
You need to check the State codes in your home state regarding specs required for powder storeage. (they vary a bit from place to place) As a generality the powder magazines sold by Dixie Gun Works will pass most any regs concerning powder storeage.

Requirements in my state are that a Powder Mag must be moveable, have a locking device, a non sparking liner, and a given "burst pressure strength" (which I cain't recall off the top of my head). I cut the cord off an old refridgerator and put a hasp on it for locking, and got it approved by the Fire Marshal as a storeage device!
