My Ideal Backback/Woodsloafing .22

My Ideal Backback/Woodsloafing .22 would be about the size of my Henry Mini Bolt, Stainless Steel, clip fed, iron sights with the option of scoping it and chambered in .22 Mag (not .17 HMR). Its duties are to protect me from all the wee beasties that I encounter scouting for new deer stands and snake defense when I fish by the bayou (no s%&t I found out how aggresive a cotton mouth can be). CCI shot loads fill the bill with for this. I have the Mini Bolt with a selection of ammo but rumaging around in a bag to feed a Single Shot is a drag. Any likely candidates (no political posts please).

Personally I find one of my Ruger 22 SSs easy to carry when prowling the boonies.  I'm partial to my old Bearcat, small light and very accurate out to 50' for me.

I purchased (years ago) a Marlin 70PSS Papoose as a truck/hiking/camp rimfire.  It has been a very reliable little gun for me.  It would be nice if they had one chambered in .22 Mag though.  

I put a 4x scope on mine.  I like the takedown feature and the padded case that it fits in.  It still fits in the case with my scope on it although I can only zip it 3/4's of the wat closed.  It has two velcro straps that hold the gun in place inside so it won't slip out.  When I put a sling on it and throw it on my shoulder it's so light I hardly know it's there.

When I lived in CA and used to hike the desert and mountains I would also carry a .38 snubby with some snakeshot (and a few HP's in my pocket)

Looking back at this thread and seeing it's under rimfire rifles I gave a wrong opinon.  Because I also spend a lot of time on the water I'd probably try one of the survial rifles that come apart and go in to the stock.  And the way I am in a canoe this could be a handy feature.  Have a friend who has one and it is quite accurate. Darn now I know where there's a used one, guess I'd better look at it.  Why did you start this, probably cost me money. Oh, well another one to pass on to grand kids.

I think I am going to look into getting one of those Savage clip-fed bolt action .22s (yah .22LR) from Wally World ($85). It has a Synth-Stock and I will remand it to my gunsmith for barrel bobbing (from 22" to 16 1/2" to be legal), reset the front sight and then either Parkerize or Powder coat the exterior. Then find a nondescript case like I have for the Mini Bolt. I am looking for an overall length of about 34". I have also thought about the Marlin bolt actions for this procedure at least they have them in .22 Mag & stainless. BTW the CZ scout rifle (youth) is about the size I want but the ones I looked at were too expensive and nice to to do this to.
