My Marlin 39a is by far my favorite Marlin rimfire. Of course, it's my only Marlin rimfire. I wasn't happy with the others and they went away.

I have yet to meet a Marlin I didn't like, even though I think they are not the highest quality rifle around. They are an "everymans gun" which puts them in good stead with nearly everybody.
My choices would be ...
1) 39A, probably the finest lever gun ever made. The funny part is, I'm so particular I haven't found one that's in perfect condition yet. I gave the last perfect one to my stepson. I especially like the '70's rifles. What a rifle.
2) 39M, I have one that is one of my favorite guns. You just can't take a 39M out of the safe and not have fun with it, whether you shoot it or not.
3) 7000, the finest rimfire auto made. Cheap, accurate, well balanced, I'd pick it over a 10/22 any day, and I'm a Ruger fan.
4) 2000, I know it's not in production anymore, though I can't imagine why. I had one, and it would outshoot most any bolt .22 made, what a shame I sold it, and what a shame they're not still made, COMEON MARLIN !!!
5) 25m, another quality bolt rifle for the everyday hunter. Perfect, cheap and accurate. It's really a 2000 in hunting form, way to go Marlin.
6) 60, same place as the 25m, just an everday auto for hunting, nice gun.

In 1970, my Dad gave me his Model 39A, which he had for 25 years as  my first rifle.

Still have it today - and still my favorite.

I have four different iterations of the 39A. They are my favorite GO-TO fun rifles.

I have a 39A Octagon, I have two ORIGINAL GOLDEN 39-A rifles. I have a new release of the 1897.

And, because I like Marlin's, I have a 39 TDS, and a 39 century Limited.

I also have a passle of other makes of 22's too, but, the Marlin's are my GO-TO rifles.

Had a 99M1 with a trigger job and a target crown done on it---shot like a match gun, but I sold it because it was a pain in the rear to clean---big mistake and I sold it too cheap also--I'm a dumb crap---but not dumb enough to sell my 39A which my grandfather gave me in 1957 for my 12th birthday---love this gun!!!! Still would like to have a 39M---why don't they make a lmited run???/ God knows they would sell like beer on Friday night!!!!!          :D pg

I've only owned 1 Marlin rimfire, but I liked it quite a bit.  It was a lever action, model 57M in .22Mag.  It was a strange rifle in that it had a 24" barrel, and a flat, wide target type forend.  One certainly couldn't call it a cowboy type rifle.  It fed ammo through the butt.  If I recall it held 11 rounds and was quite accurate.   My only reservation was I didn't realize the stock wasn't walnut.  When I applied paste wax to spiff the stock up, I ended up removing much of the finish.  It really irked me to no end.  All in all I found it a very satisfactory rifle.  Best wishes.

my great great uncle used to hunt with us when i was young and he always carried a papoose, he was 80 plus years old and still could shoot and always came home with game.

he would screw the barrel on that thing and using open sights he always got his squirrels. in fact once my dad saw him shoot two out of the same tree seconds apart with it.

just thinking of that old rifle makes me smile. i guess that would be my favorite marlin.

I have only one rifle and its a model 60 circa 1985, first when i was 19 or so the buffer cracked with the ammo my uncle brought it with CCI minmags after that my friend helped me to change the buffer. By keeping it clean after 100 or so rouns mine functions flawlessly. I was checkign the sero at about 20 or so feet a few days ago leaning on my jeep bonnet. It put two consecutive shots in the same hole  (EDITED FOR CONTENT) what more can a man want. its been my best friend these last 20 years and after hunting all sorts of stuff, I couldn't buy anything else.
I just love it to death.

I'm still shooting an old 89DL that I shot as a kid some 50 years ago. Got a Weaver B4 scope on a side mount. It's taken in it's time just about every small game and varmint critter PA has to offer. If I cut a notch for every feral cat and barn rat it took the stock would be long gone. I ain't sayin' it's accurate but my little brother and I used to shoot the carpenter bees off the side of the barn with CB caps at about 25 yards.Didn't miss many.Only drawback is the feed system. It's difficult to load a single round. I recently found another in a gun shop that needed bluing and stock refinishing for a 50 dollar price tag. Guess what?? Yup, I now have two of em.

Just found this site last week and have spent hours reading the posts. There is a very polite and helpful attitude in general. I wish to thank all who are responsible for it's creation and maintainance. Bob Gular.

Correction to my last post: The rifle is a MARLIN 81DL not an 89. I have no idea where that number came from!! Bob Gular

Well I guess we are the two men out here but I also say the Marlin Papoose 70pss.It is the only marlin I own but I love this little gun.It is accurate ,compact when taken down,There may be more accurate Marlin rifles out there. But for what it is, a compact takedown semi auto rifle.I dont think thay can be beat.
Its a helluva thing killin a man,you take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have

The one I just bought yesterday - a 1980 Marlin-Glenfield Model 25. It's in beautiful condition, with the best trigger I have ever seen on a .22 rimfire asside from the Savage-Anshutz that I shot on the college rifle team in the late 1960's.

I have never had a bad Marlin bolt action - I have owned at least 6 Marlin .22's over the last 35 years
 - but there is something very special about this old Model 25.

Cost wise, it was a piece of cake. I have about $15 in it.
Skill ,didn't take much either. I started with a stock stock and added some bondo and alot of sanding.
I am very pleased with it.

the 60 yesterday, today and forever, the most bbl option lengths the most choices of wood, th old nra logo ones have great wood, the old glenfields have a long tube that will hold 17 plus one rounds of ammo, super accurate, super cheap, very reliable, ther is no downside, unless you must have aftermarket parts, because there are none.
