Hi Guys,

Now that the AW ban has expired, does anybody know if it would be legal for me to remove the thumbhole stock from my FN and replace it with original hardware?

i read this months american rifleman and they did a review of the DSA FN-FAL and it looks to be the original configuration, and it said nothing about it being restricted or prohibited. where was yours made? got to play with a lithgow FAL at the range a couple weeks back. curse the canadian government for telling me i can never own one!!

going off topic, can i subscribe to The American Rifleman if i'm not an NRA member? i liked most of it, political columns ain't my cup of tea, but i can skip them. can anyone guess what made me buy Sept.'s issue without even opening it?

My understanding is that DSA was making approved FN/FAL variants throughout the life of the ban.

I am wondering if it is legal to take a rifle modified to comply with the ban and restore it.

Mine is stamped L1A1 and i believe was imported from brazil By imbel.  To be honest, I am not sure whether or not it is and "inch" or "metric" rifle, or even how to tell the difference between the two.

The L1A1 is inch pattern IIRC.  The reciever is an Imbel, made in Brazil.  Good receivers from what I understand.  As far as modifying the rifle I'd double check to make sure that you have the necessary US Made parts before you chance things like the stock and add a flash-hider.  The recent AW ban that went bye-bye is totally different than the 922R regs.  I suggest you read up before you make chances just to be on the safe side.

NO!!!
if you get rid of it, sure enough some useless politican will introduce some very stupid and useless gun laws and make them illegal and the only way to buy them and other really cool " assault " weapons is to be grandfathered in. if you say that could never ever happen, IT ALREADY HAS!!!
