Went Shooting With My Daughter This Afternoon
« on: September 23, 2004, 02:51:34 PM »
I sent my 22 into H&R for a 22 magnum barrel the end of August. They received it on the 31st and shipped it back to me on the 14th of September! I mounted an old Tasco 4x 22 scope on the new barrel using the high Leupold Rifleman rings (great rings made in USA, in fact, even the allen wrench that was supplied is stamped made in the USA!).

Today, my 16 year old daughter and I went down the hill to the my shooting range. This was here second time out shooting with dad. We fired a few warm up groups with the 22 long rifle barrel - she did as well as I. Then we switched to the 22 mag. The first few shots missed the target at 50 yards (no big suprise), so we moved close to the target. I showed her how to adjust the scope, and we walked the shots to the center of the bull. Moving back to 50 yards, the shots were on the target, and quickly centered. My last 3 shot group was about 1/2". Ammo was Winchester Dynapoint.

She had a great time. I think I have a new shooting partner. I think we will try my H&R Model 158 357 magnum next. Not much recoil, but a bigger bang (and hole in the target).

I am going to get a 6-18 Bushnell Banner scope for the 22 magnum - Scruffy watch out!

H&R Bang, Way to go young fellow, I think you should have started with her at a much younger age. You should every chance you get :D
Maybe you can keep those hairy legged boys away :-D  :-D  :-D
My two sons took me dove hunting this past weekend. Not very many
birds but a good time, first time we had been hunting together ( all 3
of us) We are going to try to do it more often Best of luck to you and
Daughter. Marv.

My daughter is 11 and my son is 9, and I have taken them shooting many times. They love it. Today at the dinner table we talked of the day when I can take Brittney deer hunting. I am in the process of trading a .44 Mag barrel for a .243 Win barrel, and i thought that would be the perfect caliber for her. If you start them shooting early (but not too early), the memories will last a life time, and I'm convinced it's a way to bond a family like no other activity
Ohhhh, I hate when that happens

Nuttinbutchunks you are right about the 243 being perfect for your daughter. My grandson is 11 and small for his age. He has used his youth handi in 243 for a couple of seasons and is very comfortable with it. (4 deer so far).  Now that I think about it the 243 is perfect for us grown-ups too.

 :D

The big scoped sportster went 10-1 (10 kills, 1 miss) on the squirrels this fall so far, and the miss was my bad...  And punching targets is great.  Zoom it in, focus, etc, very nice!!!

later,
scruffy

I got my big Banner - it seems almost as big as the rifle. Best results so far - 13/16" 100 yard group with Winchester Dynapoints. Who says they don't soot well? I guess it proves each gun has it's own favorite load. Mine seems to like the cheapest!
