My grandfather just passed away and he had an old H&R "The American" 32 S&W double action pistol that I managed to get. It has a 2 1/2" octagonal barrel, is nickel plated (worn) and holds 6 shots. I know he bought it used when he was serving as a special deputy for the local college. I think that this one went out of production in 1942. Do any of you know any additional info on this one? The barrel is marked 32 S&W CTGE and with H&R Arms. The top strap is marked The American and Double Action. I think the serial number is 169701 (it is hard to read). I don't plan on shooting it, but I'm going to clean it up a little and display it with his badge, which I also have. I know it is not worth much on the open market, but it is a family piece now and I'm glad to have it for that. Thanks for anything you may have on this one.
