Century Arms Centurion?
« on: September 25, 2004, 10:52:38 AM »
I'm getting back into muzzleloader hunting.  Used to shoot a CVA Hawkin I made from a kit.  Sold that years ago.  I'm on budget and wanting to keep my purchase low to keep better half from going ballistic.  I have 2 options I see.  One: get a Huntsman Barrel for my NEF 12 gauge total about $105.00, and two: Pick up a new Century Arms Centurion BP50 inline muzzleloader which I can pick up NIB for $65.00 plus $25.00 shipping for $90.00 total.  Anyone here have any experiance with the Centurion rifles?  Are they any good?  Thanks for the input!

Sorry; never heard of the rifle. Where do you get them?? I am really curious about a rifle that costs so little. I might have to buy one just to see how it shoots.

Aloha Keith,
This Century Arms Centurion rifle is available from this seller on Gunbroker: http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=23407674  He has 2 more left but has not listed them yet.  On researching this rifle online I have only found positive reviews.  Here's an example: http://www.gunslocal.com/search_output.asp?SubTypeID=13&TypeID=4  Here's a photo: http://www.gunslocal.com/gunimages/1500.jpg  I have ordered this rifle, and will post a review here after i've had a chance to shoot it.
Have a great day.

Received my new Centurion muzzleloader today, and I must say i'm very impressed.  It came with a healthy coat of presservative oil so I wiped it down right away.  The barrel, and action is an even blue with a stainless steel bolt.  The barrel has a 1 in 32 twist.  The stock is a nice quality synthetic.  The gun comes with a wrench stored in the butt which is for removing the nipple, and breach plug.  This gun is extremely easy to take apart to clean.  It has 2 safeties, one that blocks the trigger, and the other a notch which the bolt handle locks into to prevent it from moving forward.  It has a very smooth trigger pull of about 3.5 pounds right out of the box.  I chose this rifle for it's nice entry level price, and because it takes #11 caps which I had alot of from my Hawkin days.  As soon as I get to the range i'll post a report.  I would recommend this rifle for an entry level muzzleloader, but I don't see myself upgrading anytime soon.

Uncle Ji,

I have a friend that goes by the name Oaklane that got one a couple of years ago. His came with a chrome lined barrel. He was happy as all get out except he didn't like the looks of the stock. Being a shock expert he cut he the forearm down, did a bed job on it, and gave it a custom camo paint job. I got to say it turned out to be a fine rifle. I'm sure you'll be happy with your's. I haven't heard from Mike in a year or so, but I can still find his notes on CVA.

Good Luck,

Jules j.
