If you can afford a Leopould, it will serve you very well. There are some cheaper, but that is a hit or miss type of deal. Some of the cheaper brands are good, but you never know for sure till you have tried it on your rifle. To see if it holds zero & so on.

Some would disagree with my choice since it is a lower end scope price wise, but it has worked very well for me.

I put a BSA Mil-Dot 8x32x44 from Cabelas on my 308 and it passed the zero test, by this I mean I zeroed at 200 yards and then moved up 8 clicks, right 8 clicks, down 8 clips and left 8 clicks, and ended up with the same POI. This is apparently from my research a true test of the scopes function.

I do only use mine when firing set at 10x since that is the proper setting for the mil-dot ranging. I only go to a higher power if I don't happen to have my spotting scope with me.

I have not tried to increase magnification to a higher level to see what happens to POI. I had read that at the higher magnifications the POA would change from my understanding. Anyone please correct me I have misunderstood this.

I do agree that the leopold is a great scope, but did not want to spend that much since I only target shoot, and not in competitions with this rifle.

I know this is a late post considering the original date of your post but just now noticed it.

got a bushnell 10X mildot (3200 model) on my 12bvss .308, on my 12bvss .223, and on my Oly AR Flattop.

Natchez usually has a deal on em in the $169 to $189 range.
