Problems Reloading Saboted bullets in my Encore???
« on: September 26, 2004, 05:26:28 AM »
I was over at the TC rifle board and someone said I should give this problem to you guys.  They said you may have a fix for my problem:

While I was testing different bullets in my BP Encore I found that the best groups were with the saboted bullets. However, I had a problem with the Hornaday 300 gr saboted spitzer point bullets. It was harder then hell getting the bullet down the barrel. This is with a good brushing after each shot and a very strong ramrod.

I like the saboted bullets, but don't know what I will do in the field with the ramrod that comes with the Encore. It is not as heavy and as strong as the ramrod I use at the range. Are all saboted bullets this hard to load in the Encore? Lead bullets go down real easy compared to the saboted ones. Help??????????????????
Just another voice in the crowd!!!

Larry,
I experienced the same problem with a Traditions 50 cal. m/l I received last year.  Had a heck of a time getting sabotted bullets down the bore.  I wrote Traditions and they suggested changing sabots.  I happened to be in Wal-Mart one day when I found some of the non-sabotted 295gr. HP Copper-Clad PowerBelt Bullets (with the green skirts).  They loaded very easily and Wahoo!!! they were very accurate too.  I found using ff Triple 7- 90 grains that I was getting consistant results.  Good Luck!

Oh, if you want to loosen up that barrel, I'd consider using some J-B bore compound paste along with Kroil, and use a nylon brush to get the sharp edges removed!  Let us know how you make out.  Incidently, check Brownells catalog to order the J-B Compound and Kroil.
