I picked up a 10" .357 a while back. It's designed for hotshot rounds but all I've shot from it is standard loads and .38's with the choke removed. I picked up some hotshot shot capsuls from a dealer at a gun show recently. Is there anything special about loading for these. Every load book I've looked in has no load data to reference. Does anyone know anything about these things?

On the 357, I have a booklet that was put out by TC, that shows a load of 9.0 gr. Hercules Bullseye, small pistol primer WW or Rem. Bell case, load powder, insert flat end of capsule into case, seat capsule and crimp.

You need to shoot these with the choke installed to stop the spin of the capsule.

My first barrel was a 44 hotshot barrel. Took a few squirrels with it. About like a 410.

I read your post and it reminded me that in the Speer #12 reloading maual pages 579 & 580 there is a short chapter on reloading shotshells for 38/357, 44 Special and 44 Magnum. It explains the "how to" part of loading them and gives 5 powder suggestions for each round. I don't know if any of the other Speer manuals have this section, but it sounds like it could be helpful.

No these aren't the speer shot shell capsules. These are the original T/C brand Hot Shot capsules. They are approximately 2" in length flat on one end, dome shaped on the other and will hold just under a 1/2 oz of shot in the .357

I thought the load sounded high also, but that is what it says. PM your snail mail to me and I'll photcopy it to you. This booklet was published by TC (6-1-84) and used to be supplied with the purchase of a Contender.
It's called "Making Your Contender Perform"

There is another load listed on the back of the booklet also. Using 9.0 gr DuPont Hi-Skor 700X this is with a 1/2 oz. TC Hot Shot Capsule. Note says:
"Capsules were seated firmly on the powder. All loads were crimped the maximum amount using RCBS crimp die"

Don't use these loads based on my recommendation! I'm just telling you what's in the booklet. I have no experience with loading these Hot Shots, but I've fired the factory 44 ones before.
