Why can't or doesn't,the USA,make a 22lr ammo,that is truly consistent, for target shooting,like Wolf or Lapua

It's because there isn't a big demand for it. American ammo makers left that market to the Europeans years ago, with the exception of federal's Ultra Match ammo of the 1990's. Billions of .22's are sold yearly, and the amount of high-quality match ammo is very small in comparison. Most .22 shooters are happy to hit tin cans at 10 feet and that is what the ammo makers cater too.

If you want high-quality match ammo, you'll have to look overseas.

I have fired just about every type of .22 LR ammunition
that has been imported into the United States in the last
20 years. (I collect the boxes.) I have found none that has such a difference in accuracy as to make it worth the extra price per box.
I have used probably 30 different makes and models of firearms
too. I have a Winchester model 67 that will put 10 rounds into
a dime at 50 meters all day long. and it will do it with most ammo you feed it. Most of the accuracy comes from the barrel, not the bullet!
I have also found that with most Rimfire firearms I have tried,
the faster the bullet the bigger the group!

I agree there. My old Mossberg will shoot 3/4 inch groups at 50 yards using Winchester Wildcats or Remington bulk golden hollow points, or Federal bulk HP's. I tried the expensive stuff once--accuracy was the same. The high end target rifles can be picky, but if you're shooting a regular commercial gun, then you can find a cheap ammo that will work.

I beg to disagree to a point. While some guns shoot most ammo well or even great a lot of others are more picky some guns that shoot 2 inch or worse groups at 50 with most ammo will shoot under a half or better if you find a brand of ammo it likes. (of course some maynot either depends on the gun that it is why you should shoot as many brands as you can until you find one you like) Might not matter to some and to others it will just depends on how fussy your gun may be and how picky you are with your accuracy. I agree the barrel has a lot to do with it and even on my cheap Romanian 69 the barrel is excellent and shoots a lot better than you would think it should. It is as accurate or even a bit more so than the Ruger 10/22 T I had. When I saw how accurate the Romanian was I dumped the 10/22 T for a other gun that met my fancy as I am not that big of a Ruger fan anyway. That Ruger could shoot but it was heavy for hunting and I do more than just punch paper besides that I think laminated stocks are ugly.

Misfires on remington .22 ammo... Is it just me or are thoose remington golds the worst ammo out there? It seems every few shots is a misfire..

Remington 22 ammo stinks! But it is consistant. consistant with misfires. I am 52 and bought the remington gold as a kid and even then it misfired. I do not buy it anymore except for a couple of years ago bought some of the Reminton 22 mag Premium with the plastic tip. Yea it was accurate but at almost 12 bucks a box I had over 9 misfires. Some one assured me that the problem was fixed with their newer ammo but I am hesitant to try it at that price. Still have been hearing bad reports on the gold ammo though. Don't think much of the thunderbolts either. Jim

While I don't care for the Remington Thunderbolts, I've never had a problem with Remington golden bullets, solid or hollow point, from any of my guns. With my Mossberg 42 I get 3/4" groups at 50 yards with the HP's. They take squirrels every time, one shot, one kill.

Not doubting you but you mean to tell me you have never had a misfire using the gold? I remember as a kid having misfires and the last box of ammo a few years ago some one gave me had misfires also. This was using more than one gun over the years so I cannot and willnot blame any guns it was the ammo. If your guns like it and shoot it well I do not blame you for liking it but for my self I will not buy it anymore. Other ammo out there that shoots better in my guns anyway. Jim

In over 25 years of shooting, I have NEVER had a misfire from a Remington golden bullet out of any gun--bolt action, semi-auto, lever action, falling block, or revolver. I consider them to be one of the most reliable, accurate, bulk .22 LR ammo available. Equal to it is the Federal bulk HP.
