I dropped by the old gravel pit this evening, and there was a guy shooting a model 70 Win. in 243 WSM. He was shooting the 55 gr. BT's so I asked him if he would like to chrono the ammo. He said sure,so 1 shot read 4170 fps .   Makes me kinda want one now.  Digger

Published max for .243 is 4058 with 44.5gr of H4895. It's possible that you could come close enough to the WSSM with a 24" Ultra Varmint that only the chrono would know the difference.

This was factory ammo he was using, with nickle plated brass and I think it may have been Hornady but I'm not sure.  Digger

Digger,
Come on now, you know that speed is not everything.  You still got to hit what you are aiming at.  How did it shoot, other than velocity.  Did it do 1 MOA?  Prob. not.  That does sound like fun though..

He had fired 4 shots before I got there, and he said that they were within 1/2" .  So it sounds like a winner if they were that close.
