I'm having a hard time determining the manufacture of my 99E.
Looked on Savage99.com - no luck.

It's a 308 winchester, made in Westfield.

Do not see a lever boss code.

Serial # is: C024707

(Looks late 60's early 70's)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Help with dating a 99:
300 savage, top of the barrel says Savage Arms Corp. Utica, NY. On the right side up next to the reciver has a ovel with SP in it. Stock is pistol grip with grip cap and checkered. Recoil pad with Hawkens on it. Can anybody give any info on it as far as what mod. and year? The boss has a "Q" stamped on it, but from what I could find out is that the "O"and"Q" were omited?

There is a Savage web site that allows you to type in the serial # and date your rifle.  I found out mine which was manufactured in Utica NY was from 1928.

Found the web sight and it looks like after typing in the ser.# it's 1938 but it still dont know the mod. The "Q" is stamped heavy but there is no circle around it.And looking on page one of this post before 1949 there was no boss code?

I don't believe the earlier rifles had a Model #.

I have a Savage 99 I am working on. Its serial number is 954xxx the stamp on the boss is off center and unreadable. It is a 243 cal. It on the barrel it is stamped 99f it has F on the left side of the bottom sear. So I had believed it to be built in 54. However I believe the F in my case refers to feather weight as it has the skinny barrel. The barrel was made in Chicopee Falls. The stock has been sawed off so there is no butt plate info. The safety is on the lever. It has holes drilled for scope. I believe it is made in the 50s, sometime after 55 but what year I would like to know.

Also would like a advice on where to get a stock. Thanks.

I don't see anything past 1950 or a serial number of 550,000. Mine is 945xxx. No help.

You may need to etch it with acid.  Sorry, you stated that and I missed it.

Not that important to know the date, it's obviously between 55 and 60 since it has a safety on the lever and it's a 243. The 243 wasn't developed until 55 and I believe the safety went to the tang in 60.
