Hi everyone, I am still every new to the muzzleloading and have a question. I have not been able to get very good groups with my encore .50 cal using the 240 gr. XTP sabot or the 275 gr.. I have also tried the different Power Belt bullets. I have tried 2 - 50 gr. pyrodex pellets and RS pyrodex. My best group was about 6" at 100 yards with 90 grs. RS and 295 gr. Power Belt bullet. My question is can I use the very heavy Maxi Hunter or conical bullets in a rifle with 1 in 28 twist. Or can you give me some different options.

You can use those heavy bullets, but you might just want to try backing off the powder first.  Some Encores won't shoot very accurately with over 80-90 grains.  Some people get one to 150 grains with the same bullet.  Each is more individual than you would think.
Try the 250 gr SST/Shockwave and 200gr Shockwave.  The 250 gr works in almost all guns with accuracy in the 80-100gr powder range.
Just because a gun says it will handle the pressure of 150 grains doesn't mean it will do it accurately!

Your Encore should shoot the Powerbelt bullets a lot better than 6 inches at 100 yards. I would try backing off the powder a little but I would also check for more obvious problems. Loose scope, bad shooting support etc. I shot the first shots out of my Omega and Pursuit LT with about 2 1/2 inch groups before doing any break-in or experimentation. Most rifles should shoot at least that good. Your Encore should do a lot better.

Is your 240 gr XTP a 44 or 45 cal. bullet.  My Encore and another friend of mine will shoot the 44 cal. fine with the green sabot which are much easier to load.  I do have one friend whos Encore will not shoot worth a toot with the 44 cal. bullet, he has the use the 45's with the black sabots.

I guess I should also answer your question.  The Maxi-Hunter will probably shoot okay from the 1 in 28 twist.  The old Encore manuals listed loads for these bullets.  I think they suggest putting a fiber wad under the Maxi-hunter.
