Desert Eagle 44 Mag

I'm of the "A full case is a happy case" school of loading. In fact I'm often accused of not using a powder measure, that I simply use the case and a bowl of powder and "scoop, level and stuff", ignoring the crunching as I compress the powder. Isn't the top of the sholder the "Fill to here" line?

Anyway, my favorite load for my 44 Mag revolver is 20.2 gr of VihtaVuori N 110 and a Sierra 240 gr Power Jacket and Federal Large Pistol Mag primers.

So far so good. They work great in my 629, 7 1/2 in barrel. Now to the question.

A friend of mine has a Desert Eagle in 44 Mag and I'd like to load some cartridges for him. I'd like to use the same combination but I'm wondering if the powder is fast enough to cycle the slide properly or if I need to drop down to VV N 350.

Have you had any problem with a max or near max load not cycling the slide properly? If so, what powder (how much and what bullet) were you using and what worked better?

BTW, for a reduced load, try 8.2 gr of VV N 350 with the same bullet and primer.

And exactly where is the shoulder on your .44 Magnum cases?

And how do you know that your load is 20.2 grains in every load (since you just dip the case in a bowl of powder and "fill 'er up")?

Steve, 20.5gr. of N110 and 240gr. Hdy XTP worked great for my DE44 10-in barrel. As little as 18.9gr. cycles the action.
