NavajoNPaleFace: A couple of things might help you view your Vista. <With the Satellite Page displayed, use the Zoom in and out buttons on the top left side of your unit to adjust the contrast.>
Another option I take advantage of with my older eyes is the Big Numbers /Big Compass Options. :shock: Assuming the Legend and Vista share some of the same software try <Navigation page>At the top select the left menu box>Click and go down to the Big Numbers option.> You will notice that when you click this display that it will give you big numbers, when you go back to the option it will give you Big Compass. I prefer the Big Compass option but others may prefer the Big Numbers Option.
I agree with you regarding viewing the screen at the wrong angle. The Etrex series was designed around "Shanks Mare" form of transportation. I have not had a problem viewing the screen while on foot. If I was a proud owner of a 4-wheeler, or snowmobile and had a few more bucks in my pocket I would go for a larger gps in color. A 60C or GPSMap76 would be nice. I am sure that the larger color Magellans would also fill the bill. It just depends on how big of brick you are willing to carry in the woods. (It is the same decision I make between carrying a light weight .270 Win. or a 7MAG which is another pound.) If you are riding it does not make that much difference.
The Etex screen is small and paying attention to it while operating a vehicle can be risky. I have read a couple of articles on the color models. The writers claim that they provide better view contrast. Under normal conditions on a paved road I do not have any problem viewing the screen on my Legend. But that is not the bouncy world of an off road vehicle. Normally on the highway or on trip into the woods to hunt I let my wife or hunting partner keep track of the gps. Or they do the driving and I play with the gps. :jeep:
