A buddy of mine and I might be up for it.  We're in the Richmond, Ky area. We were talking about trying hog hunting, and going with some experienced fellows just might be the ticket.  I'll be hunting with a single shot NEF in 500 S&W if we go, (assuming NEF releases them on time and my dealer can find one for me) so I'm thinking I want to start out in a tree rather than have to find one after the shot.   :)   I'll chat it out with him and get back to ya.

Any other dates anyone wants to through out?

I'm open for most any date.  Badnews Bob wants to come too if we are welcome.   Both of us mainly hang out on the NEF and Handloading forums.  We're about 2-3 hours north of South Fork.

Ok, How about the weekend of February 18-21.... Bob and I have Monday the 21st off so that would be good for us I think.  I haven't talked to him to see if he has anything planned for that weekend but I doubt it.  If that's too far off, we can do most any weekend that's good for the others.

Bob and I are a definate once we confirm that we don't have to buy an out-of-state big game license.  We aren't familiar the area down there where you intend to hunt, so what I propose is that we meet down there for a scout weekend between now and then, get to know one another and the terrain, and pay a visit to some place that sells licenses to get the skinny.  PM me your real world name and a phone number (I'll do the same) and we'll set it up.

Hey guys I'm all for it if the fees arn't to high, I would like to come down earlier for some scouting if someone who knows the area would meet me and Haywire, How close to US 27 would we be hunting? Or would we be coming in from the Jellico Tenn side? There is a place just over the border from KY where they shoot Cowboy action and this guy has cabins cheap and a gun range and a place to ride fourwheelers, north of Oniedia off of US 27. I got a .45-70 just waiting to smack a hog. 8)

Quote from the Tenn site:

"Feral hogs are considered big game but are not required to be tagged or checked in at  big game checking stations."

This seems to indicate that we'd have to purchase a $105.50 "7 Day All Game" license instead of a $30.50 "7 Day Small Game/Waterfowl".  Naturally we had hoped for the lesser. In Ky, the standard small game license covers hogs too.  We'll see for sure when we get down there.

I might tent camp in the camp ground, still thinking about it.  I'd probably sleep better in a motel as Feb. can be very cold at night.  I'll check motel prices in the area.....

Well, you can count us out guys.. ... that's too much for the license at the moment.  Bob and I might go scout the Ky side of the line where it's cheaper.  Good luck on your hunt, and post some pics when you plug that biggun.

I would like to sign up and can carpool with anyone from the Chicago area.  For the TN license - can we purchase that over the counter?  Thanks.

I'm fairly certain you can purchase the license over the counter as Tennessee has got high tech machines that prints the license in the store.  Here is a link to the Tennesse Wildlife Resources Agency.  This should show you everything you need to know..........http://www.state.tn.us/twra/

Wow, make a post and come back 4 months later and see it has spawned another. As you can tell form my lack of participation I did not get to get away this year. I did get 3 deer on my place. I didn't know hog season went until the end of the season. Great. I may even be able to make this if we do it. No telling what the weather will be and I'm out of shape (nothing new there) but I should know by the first if I can make it or not. Thanks, guys.
