Taking advantage of long throat 454 barrel

Have any of you guys used a 405 gr Remington 45/70 bullet or a 500-525 gr cast bullet in your guns?  The long throat will allow this because you can seat them so much futher out.

The 454 is .451 to .452 diameter and the 45/70 is .457 to .458 diameter.Unless you use cast bullsets and you swag them down.

Sorry my mistake I know the sizes are different and assumed that others did too.  Yes you have to size down the 405 grainer and also the 400 gr Speer. the jackets are thin and will size down easily in a cast bullet sizer.  Along with the cast bullets for the 458 and 45/70.  The loads can be qiute powerful in a 12 inch gun. Also with relativly small charges compared to the 45/70.

How do I swage the bullets down?  I assume need to buy some sort of die that would fit in my Rockchucker to do it, it sounds like a good idea to me.

I use a cast bullet sizer to size the bullets down.  Works very well.  I use case lube on the 405 Jacketed Remingtons and the 400 gr Speers.

Lee makes one that will fit in your press.  They offer several popular diameters and just about any reasonable diameter on a custom basis.  Maybe 15$ plus some lube...  I have used them with great success for the 44 pistols.
