My latest plan for building a .338-06 for a reasonable amount of money is as follows: local guy has a Remington 700 ADL 30-06 with scope for sale for $300. I buy the rifle, remove and sell the scope for $50. I send the rifle to ER Shaw and have it rebarrelled in .338-06, blasted and matte blued. This runs about $255 plus shipping. I get it back and end up with essentially a new Remington 700 ADL in .338-06, for ~$505. It would still need a scope etc, but at least the price is in the ballpark with a new hunting rifle.

You will love the caliber for hunting big game at reasonable yardages to 300 yards. It will do All that the .338 mag will do at that distance on elk, moose etc. I have one such rifle in a Winchester feather weight and love it a bunch. Good Luck with yours. :grin:

6bits: What loads? Barrel length? Ballistics? Scope? on your 338-06

Barrel length is 22 inches. Barnes 210 xlc bullet, Powder is RL-15 @ 57. 4 grains, velocity through a Chorny is 2675fps. The scope is a Leupold 2x7 power.

I love the Barnes X bullets, but I definately would NOT use them with the XLC coating.

Well Zachary it's like this, they just simply work for me and I don't have any problems with so called dies clogging up etc. I have shot some of the most accurate groups in my lifetime with several different calibers so far with these bullets.

Now sir! Please embellish us if you will, as to why you will NOT use the XLC Barnes bullet......I am all ears :roll:
