Those look nice. They seem shiny and almost look slick. What do they feel like and where in the world (I know, Africa) do you get giraffe bone?

The grips are very hard. Like Lloyd said, Scott also said, giraffe bone is about as hard of a grip material you can find. I believe Scott polished the grips first then put a clear coat on them and wet sanded them down but I cannot swear to it. The grips pictured have a walnut stain applied to them as well.

I have some pictures Scott sent to me of giraffe bone on a FA 83 and some 1911 grip panels. If you want I’ll email them to you if you so you can see grips with a little different character to them.

From my understanding Scott said giraffe bone is very hard to find in dimensions large enough to make Bisley grips.

This is my first real set of custom grips other than what I’ve bought from Hogue. Scott was a real pleasure to deal with. He made several phone calls to ensure everything was just the way I wanted before he began work. He also made follow up calls while he was making the girps to give me updates. I would recommend him to anyone. It was a first class deal all the way around.

The picture does not do those grips justice.

Be Safe,
Scott

I'm just not thinking broadly enough as to materials for handgun grips. I've always thought wood, plastic, rubber, and maybe ivory was about all that was needed.

Here are a couple of other suggestions:
1) pronghorn leg bone, because they're supposed to be extremely strong.
2) pork roast bone, because I've gone an old pork roast bone in the back yard.
3) coproliths (fossilized dinosaur crap)
4) amber with bugs in it
5) acrylic with semi-precious stones cast into it.
6) pumice, for those guys who like to have the skin ripped off their palms when their magnum recoils.

The possibilities are endless
