Considering a purchase BUT it's really tough to open!!!!
« on: September 28, 2004, 05:51:28 PM »
Greetings all from a new member!
I saw a T/C Contender today for a decent price  $300  (?) It had an older frame, Ser# 29xxx and a Super 14 barrel in .22lr.   The Barrel seemed to have sharp rifling, no pits or rust to be found.

But..... it was VERY tough to open the action. The trigger guard release required a  BIG squeeze to unlock the barrel and the initial opening of the action felt like there was a slight burr somewhere in the works. The Trigger reset very smoothly with a positive CLICK!

The action locked up DRUM TIGHT,  the trigger pull seemed OK,  slightly stiff, I got the impression of some varnished up oil in the lockwork.

I would appreciate some input here. What do I need to look out for if I take a second peek at this gun??? Are they easily/economically repaired???

I shot a friends T/C some years back and that was a sheer delight, not to mention that he had over 30 barrels lined up on his shooting bench,
I was like a kid in a candy store!!!!!

Thanks in advance
Todd

sounds reasonable, but to get an "easy open conversion" fron TC, you'd have to ship the action to them. that costs about $55 + shipping, which would add an additional $70 or so to the gun price.

easy open models started after serial# 195,000, but those older models can be converted for a fee. i would want it converted, but you'd have to figure the $70+ into the purchase.
