another barrel switch question
« on: September 29, 2004, 02:50:47 AM »
Thanks for all the help with these great firearms so far!!
If i had a .410 barrel fitted to my .223 Handi , could I also use that .410 barrel on my huntsman frame even though it was not "fitted" to that reciever.  How close do the tolerences on shotguns have to be?
Thanks
Jeff

Jeffery8mm, it may or may not fit, the only way to tell for sure is to try it. Most likely it should be able to be fitted by you if it is a Huntsman frame and not a sidekick, they are different...I suggest try it and if it doesn't lock up nice and tight post the problem here on this site and someone will be able to assist....<><....

It is a huntsman.  Given the low price of a .410 barrel I may try it.

go for it, if you don't like it there is always a market here for barrels in decent shape, if anyone has a reasonably priced 16 gauge with good blue or a 30-30 barrel I'm looking for one of each....<><....

J8, try the barrels from each receiver on the other receiver, then try both barrels on each receiver. If they all fit well just send the receiver you decide you want the .410 barrel fitted to back to H&R and when it returns with a new .410 barrel it should fit both receivers!!....<><....

Jeffery: Real early Huntsmans, that used a percussion cap, the firing pin is  large and flat and won't work on a primer.  While the early disc./primer ignition Huntsman had a bar cast in the bottom of the reciever that matches a notch in the barrel lug, keeping it from accepting any cartridge chambered barrel.  Hope This Helps:  Duce:
