pressure question
« on: September 29, 2004, 05:44:24 AM »
I  am starting to branch out in my reloading and I have a question.
I have loaded for handgun and 303 British and am now starting to load 7x57 mauser and 8x57 mauser all on military actions.
My 7x57 is a Chilian sporterised and the 8x57 is a Yugo 24 as issued.

Pressures in the 7x57 are arounf 45,000 while the 8x57 are around 24,000.

Ive been reading how much stronger the 98 action is compared to the 95 howq does that explain the pressure difference?

All the loads Ive seen for the 7x57 are about the same. Are the safe in my 95?

I can't thinka about 2 things at once.

It was 303 Brit that was 24,000,,,both mausers are in the 45,000-50,000 range.

Thank you all for not embarssing me,,HAHAHAHAHA

You're right about chamber pressure for the Mausers but the maximum for a .303 Brit is actually closer to the 45,000 mark. The safest load would be below the 40,000 mark, particularly for older actions, but don't kid yourself. The Brit is actually stronger than most people give it credit for. If you're using a p-14 action you can really load the Brit right up.
