Going to the world of adult air rifles
« on: September 30, 2004, 01:58:12 AM »
I been looking for spring type air rifle to replace my Crosman pneumatic pump rifle I use to have (going to the world of adult air rifles), now I'm thinking about getting the new Tech Force 40 (budget: $300 or less), perhaps the Beeman R9? any suggestion?

PS: I mostly use it for target practice in my house, remove pest and perhaps little hunting. Yet, I what something quite since I have some old foe as my neighbors and I don't want to scare them.

R9 is a great gun!

Your not gonna do much better than an R9 on your budget.  An R7 will be  a little quieter, little slower and a little cheaper and easier to cock.  I believe both come with fully adj Rekord triggers so you'll be in great shape.  Tons of products out there to upgrade both should you decide to do so.

Can't comment on the Tech Force since I've never shot one, sorry.

Good luck and once you see how accurate the R series or rifles are you will want more.  I predict a TX-200 or HW-97 or 77 in your future.  :-)

I think D&R Sports has the best prices and they are out of PA.

I think I'd also steer you to something a bit more sedate for use in the house. The R-7, as suggested, or the RWS/Diana 24 would be good choices. The R-9 would be superior for the hunting application, but accuracy is the the name of that game, anyway.
Rest in Peace, Mr. President.

Seeing that "quiet" is what you seem to want/need then I would not recommend either the Beeman R9 or the Tech Force M40.  The R7 is a much better choice except for the small game hunting.  For that I would first check your local game laws for any and all restrictions.  That may very well figure in to what you may end up getting.  In the Tech Force line there are a few models I can recommend(99M, M97 and the M20) but none of these are what you would call "quiet".  They are suitable for hunting though.  Lawdog

There are several guns that would fill the bill and some that may be considered are:

IZH-61
CZ-Slavia 630/631
Diana 24
Beeman R7

Welcome aboard!

I bought an R7 earlier this year - very satisfied with it! Very accurate. Have a red dot on it now , will eventually try a scope.

Love my R7

Love my R7 and I mostly shoot it in the garage and basement.  Could shoot it while the kids napped. VERY quiet and VERY accurate.  I've taken 2 spruce grouse with it - head shots only at about 5-10 yards.  For target shooting I shoot better with a Beeman aperture than with a scope.  But for hunting I like a light weight scope - currently have a Beeman SS1 2.5x.

Depends what ya call quiet? I'd endorse the R7 or alittle louder (for an airgun) R9.
