Custom Air Gun Stocks???
« on: September 30, 2004, 01:44:17 PM »
Is there any place that can offer custom stocks for any particular brand of air gun?  I have thought on this idea, but before I wasted time looking for a website, I figured I'd drop the ? here.  As you may know, I am thinking on the terms of RWS.  I also have another question:  I wanted to know about the above question because I was thinking about spray painting my RWS a camo design, is that dangerous for my wood stock?  I know that sounds crazy perhaps, but I'd like some input on that.  I considered that possibility because these ground squirrels I go after are very wary about oddities in their "backyard."  So I may have utilize camoflauge in a more general sense.  I am worried about the wood stock, so that facilitates my question about a custom synthetic stock.  I really would appreciate your help on this issue.  Also, thanks for bearing with my possible careless thinking.  Patriot

If you are talking about your new 350M, I would refrain from the camo painting.  Enjoy some more shooting while sharpening your accuracy and stalking techniques, you'll bag more bushy tails and save an eventual heirloom.  Anyway you'll end up doing whatever you desire and this is just a nonsense opinion.

Actually, no.  I would more than welcome anyone's opinion on this subject.  Afterall, alot of you folks know more on the issue of air guns and what is best for most hunting/exterminating situations than I would so far.  But, the only thing I would want more is to keep it the way it is.  I was curious as to whether there was such a place that offered custom stocks for air guns.  My thing about the paint was more like a last resort.  But if there are custom stocks out there, I definitely would like some info for them.  I'm finding I may need to buy another air gun anyway... My Daisy Powerline 856F is wearing out so.... I was considering a lesser powered (1000 fps.) airgun for closer ranges if necessary (any suggestions?)  My most likely choice for the lower powered pellet gun would be  a camo pattern... But my 350 is to be used for the longer ranges, not an all-purpose.  Thanks for the opinion.  Please keep them coming! :D   Patriot

I've seen pictures on some air gun forums (fora?) regarding custom stocks for Beeman guns and I've seen pics of repainted and reworked Chinese guns.

Here is one link that may help you locate a stocker:

http://www.mac1airgun.com/services.htm

And I found an outfit called Swan or something like that but I can't find my link.  Try a google search.  Some specatcular stocks too.

There airrifle world is as wonderful and diverse as the firearm world and you can spend every bit as much $$$$$ on the air rifles.  I just got into this a couple years ago and have been amazed that guys commonly buy $800 - $1,500 air guns - Had no idea.

Well, I am quite interested in the DIY stocks.  But I have a few questions about the designs. I read on the Crow Mag Eliminator Thumbhole (my preference so far...) that it is the same design made for the RWS 34, 36, 38, and 45 series.  Can it work on the RWS 350, or is that a whole different stock design?  Sorry if this sounds stupid, but I am not sure if the barrel cocking mechanism is  different or not (size-wise).  It seems to me the only thing they do on these is design the wood prospect, and you do the reaming out the space for the action, barrel, cocking mechanism etc. Is that correct?  And same goes for designing the stock for my gun... Is the configuration compatible with the screw and pin locations?  Or, if there are any of you who went through this process, are there any suggestions on these stocks for my particular brand/series rifle?  I would prefer a thumbhole or similar design thereof.  I am really inexperienced in this facet of customization, so guidance is requested.  Thanks for your help and patience on this issue.   And of course, please keep it coming!! :D   Patriot

Patriot,  I suggest you contact the stocker for your questions.  I have not used their products or services.  I found the site after seeing quite a bit of discussion about it on another forum.  Maybe others with more experience will chime in here for you.  Sorry I can't help you more.

Another source of info might be Russ Best.  I think he mainly tunes airguns but he's generous with advice and no doubt knows about good stockers etc.
