jrkrk-Sorry to answer a question with a question, but what is QLA? I had to look up this rifle as I had never heard of it before and it lists QLA as one of it's features. The 1-28" twist would seem to make it a slug tosser and the 150 grain maximum charge ought to give it some power. The ability to use either #11 caps or musket caps is a good feature in my book
-is it available with a walnut stock?

Isn't QLA where T-C relieves the muzzle (sort of like coning but different) so you don't need a short starter?  This surfaced from some fogged over memory cells so it may not be correct.  I'm sure someone will inform me if I'm wrong...

I shoot a Blk Mtn Mag in .50 cal and mine has the wood stock.  Check my post in the thread on RB use in fast twists for my current loads with 350 gr Maxi ball.  Got mine to hunt in Oregon with and the next year they outlawed sabots, jacketed bullets, other than "loose" powder and the sights that came on the rifle.  Until then I was having very good results with the .44/.45 XTP bullets in sabots using 3 Pyrodex pellets.

With the change in the regulations I put the T/C aperture rear sight on the rifle and made a post front sight (.3" tall above the top of the barrel).  With the heavy load Pyrodex/saboted 240/300 gr bullets the stock split from the back left side of the breach plug to the hole of the lock plate retaining screw.  I'm sure T/C would have replaced it but I repaired the crack and full length bedded (MicroBed) the barrel and the breach area, no further problems.  With the Maxi-Ball I was using Clearshot until 777 came out.  I also have ran tests with Cleanshot, Goex Cartridge, FFG and FFFG.   120 gr of Goex FFFG pushes the 350 gr Maxi-Ball at 1498 fps with 2.5" five shot (without cleaning).  90 gr of 777 goes 1520 fps and still shoots accurate after 10 shots without cleaning.  Not that I expect to use that many shots while hunting but the 777 is more consistant.
