V-notch rear sight and Gold Bead front for Ruger
« on: October 02, 2004, 05:09:48 AM »
I have a Freedom Arms 83 with the V notch rear and Gold Bead front, and just got a 5.5 Ruger Bisley SS that I want to outfit with the same sighting system.  I am hooked on this sighting system for all around use but especially hunting. The front sight base on the Ruger has the pin in blade system.  Does anybody know the best route to get a gold bead front and rear v-notch for the Ruger?  Does the v notch rear blade for the Redhawk work on the Blackhawk, and who makes gold bead fronts for the SS Rugers?  Thanks, in advance.

That rear sight blade will probably work (as it looks like a Ruger standard rear sight replacement blade), but that front sight definitely will not work as it is for the removeable Redhawk front sight system.

You can try calling Bowen Classic. If they don't stock or sell them they can get you intouch with a custom sight maker.

Looks like a window of opportunity is open here, for a guy to make up a few of these front sights.  I also have chased this rabbit of an idea, and ended up doing nothing, for now.  But my patience is running thin, think I will see if I can find someone to give me a cost estimate to fabricate.

Wonder how many people like me would like a sight like that, but can't see paying what Bowen wants?

Check this page. It applies to Ruger rimfires but may work for you

You can put me on the list as well. Just recieved the 5.5 Bisley blackhawk a couple of weeks ago and haven't made it to the range yet. I do have the Ruger SRH with std sight system...the gold bead with v notch would surely be an improvement.

Call Ruger. The sights your describing used to be availible from the factory. A friend of mine in NY has those exact sights on a Redhawk from the factory.

I have made homemade versions of these sights for my Ruger Single Six.

I take a new rear sight blade and fill it with JB Weld, then grind out a "V" notch for the rear sight. On the bead front sight I get a dovetail bead front sight for a rifle and notch out a dovetail in the front sight to install the dovetail bead. Or you can grind off the front blade and JB Weld the front bead in place. After the JB Weld dries dress it up and your through. Mine have held in place for years and I have had no problem with them.

I bought the Ruger  V notch and bead sight for my SRH, but it's made for the RH, and it's too high, and won't work in my holsters. I called around about getting one made and was told it would cost more than the gun. I'd sure like one that was no higher than the  post sight on the SRH. It works great, I really like it, as it really inproved my shooting.

Thank you crustaceous............These old eyes just don't work as they did even a few yrs. ago.  I did the conversion on my Single Six and on my BFR 454.

Gave up on the Ruger.  I haven't even shot it.  I will stick to my FA.  The Ruger is in the classified section if anybody cares to looks at it.  It is an AccuSport 5.5" Bisley in .45 Colt.
