I know that some people think that if you don't spend at least 300.00 on a scope, then you have a sub-standard scope.
I will be getting the H&R sportster 17 hmr cal for a small varmint rifle. BSA sent me a catalog and I am considering the Mil-Dot 6-24x40 Illum. Reticle scope which runs about 100.00   .  Since the 17 does not kick, I am not worried about the scope getting it's optics shaken loose. It seems to be a lot of scope for the money.  Any problems with my prospective set-up. Thanks for any feedback.

Rogmatt,i have one BSA scope and i would not ever buy another one.stay away from them.buy a Bushnell of some kind.the BSA has been sent back for warranty 2 times and they did in fact replace it with no questions asked.what i am saying here is this    (BSA SCOPES ARE JUNK) save up a few extra $$ and pick up something else.i own some Simmons Aetec,Bushnell and Burris scopes and they are all good as far as i am concerned.the Simmons Aetec scopes have good clear optics and they dont cost much more than you are talking.i have 3 of them and love them.also one of the mid priced Bushnell scopes will blow the BSA away.

check something else out before you buy and you wont regret it

Even if the recoil is not a problem, it still may not keep zero and you might find that the reticle does not track evenly, i.e. each "click" does not move the reticle exactly the same amount, also the adjustments probably do not "click" at all but just turn.

I'm tight as paint, but have finally decided to spend the money on good scopes. I had a Bushnell 3200 for a while that I was pretty impressed with and it was under $ 200.
