I bought several guns from Wal Mart here (when they were still selling them) and it was no different than any other gun store.  Except the part about them walking you out the door.

The employee discount is definately a plus in this situation...happy shopping...  He'll (the friend) have to register it in his name but you can then put it in your name after the exchange...(or not!  :-) )  I think they can get the guns pretty quick depending on caliber but you have hunting season rapidly approching soooooo

mitchell, last Friday I ordered a Tamer shotgun in .410. I was told about 2 weeks at the most. Semi-painless experience overall. I did check prior to ordering that SportsSouth had the gun in stock to try to avoid a lengthy backorder situation. The web address for Sports South's catalog is www.internetguncatalog.com . Someone else here posted a link to Wally World's gun department, I found both of these links helpful. Find the gun on Wally World's site, check to see if Sports South has it in stock , print the page from Wally World, proceed to store. Keep this in mind, the person at the lay-away counter needs the UPC code for the firearm you are ordering, get this from the person at the gun counter. The lay-away or gun counter person can also search other stores nearby to see if they have the gun in stock.

Hope this helps.

I have purchased 2 shotguns and 1 rifle from Wal-Mart.All 3 had to be ordered. It took less than a week for each one.Iam very happy with them. One note though......make sure you know what you want to order and make sure them order the exact gun you want cuz more than likely the person behined the counter will know as much about your gun as I know about gene splitting   .and that's not very much  ........Rick

mitchell,

Go to the Walmart website. Click on Sports and then on "Special order guns and ammunition". You can then view the guns that Walmart carries.
Not sure if all are on the website, though. Find the gun you want, print the page and take the page to your local store. Worked for me!

I can't remember ever buying a firearm from any of the super-stores.   I've bought gobs of ammo there but never a gun.  Thankfully, I am in the situation that I can afford to pay the extra 30-40 to the small guy.

Yup, make sure Sports South has it before you mess with Walmart. I have not bought anything there since they have had the online printout feature, but I have had miserable experiences before. The more you can do, the less there is for the store people to mess up.

Nixter, what price did you get from Wal Mart for the .410 Tamer? Thanks, also if you are looking to trade that stock set for something else let me know, I have been looking for a Tamer buttstock to try on my 45-70 for a carrying around gun. I thought that perhaps the stock set up for the extra .410 shells would hold extra 45-70 shells. If you don't want to trade the stock for another style and perhaps have any 45-70 shells laying around or have a friend taht has some I would be thankful if you tried them in the stock and checked if they fit. I have not been able to get a definitive answer yet....<><....
