shooter in need
« on: October 02, 2004, 09:53:36 PM »
we have fellow shooters in need.  im sure our service men would apreciate some ml/handgun/reload etc  magazines also. this was  posted on a double barreled shotgun list as a sidelock shooter.. hunting season is a great loss and probably cause for some depression for our troops.. dave

To my fellow BBS members,
Greetings from Baghdad, Iraq.
Things here are okay but there are no real quality hunting or shooting publications to be had. Like before when I was in Afghanistan, the availability of anything related ot guns, hunting, is not high on the PX priority list.

Therefore I again ask the assistance of my fellow BBSÂ’rs to help fill this void so those of us sportsmen who are deployed to Iraq will not suffer too badly. I will do what I did before and spread the wealth as it comes in.

I am living on a base camp that was actually a shooting preserve for Saddam. There isnÂ’t anything left to hunt here, besides too many soldiers. I have a CA company command and we are attached to the 1st Cavalry Division. We go out into the Baghdad city area almost everyday. There are the usual nightly mortar rounds dropping in and occasionally IEDs or VBIEDs. There was a VBIED yesterday driven by a suicide bomber that killed a young trooper on one of our gates.

If I have one message for all of you, I will say “get out and vote”. The upcoming election is important to the country, to gun owners and sportsmen. As an officer I cannot endorse a particular candidate but I can say that George W. Bush knows what kind of gun he hunts with and the other guy doesn’t.

I missed the Vintager and I am sure there were some deals to be had. Next year I will be back at it. I missed it in 2003 but caught it last year when I returned.

Anyway, hopefully this will be the last deployment. Visiting both theaters, being away form home for essentially 2 out of the last three years is wearing thin. ItÂ’s a duty and I accept it, just wish there were some others who would share it. And besides, the little woman doesnÂ’t see the humor in any of this.

You all take care and keep the posts going. I enjoy reading them when I can.

Brian

I learned from the local post office that two letters are required after the 093.  I am trying to locate these and update the posting.  If anyone has these or can help in locating these it would be appreciated.

I THINK that the "APO AE 093" in the address should be :

APO 093 AE  but I'm not positive  :(

But I think that fffffg should check with Brian regarding it,.. I'm glad that you caught the mistake. I was going to take my box up to the post office tomorrow!!

I think I've got it!!

I went to the Zip Locator for the military country code legends and the 2 letters that seem to be wrong are the AE = (United Arab Emirates)

So then that last line in the APO address SHOULD read: APO 093 AE

I guess I'll send my box of Magizines to that and see what happens!  8)

7MM
Thanks for digging into this.  I have never mailed anything to an armed forces member before so I had no idea.  I will take the boxes to the post office after I leave the gun range today.

THANKS GUYS..  the whole idea seems to be getting bogged down.. i dont see anything wrong with trying tho ..  other lists mederators wont lett the post go thru, mlml is suspicous,  etc, etc.. my part was to get this around, so hopefull thru all your efforts they will get something..   it reminds me of when my son was in grade school. he had all kinds of problems,, if he didnt put his name on the paper the teacher threw it away..  i guess the teachers intent has followed thru to her students..  thanks again dave..

Awww,.... It's not bogged down! As a matter of fact,... It is posted on another sportsmans website I belong to.

One of the ADMIN's over there saw it and thought it was a good idea also and posted it. I also informed them of the corrected APO address so the Major should be gettting a awful lot of new reading material to pass out!

I agree with 7MM Magnum, I don't think it has bogged down.  I posted it on a handgun hunting website that I routinely visit.  I updated the APO this morning.  Hopefully our service men and women will get some reading material from this.
