i'm looking to buy a 14" 30 herrett barrel in the near future. i was informed today that some of the early barrels were made with the wrong twist and were not very accurate.  which are the good ones and how do you tell them apart .   thanks           and this is a great site btw[/b]

I don't think it was so much the twist as it was the groove number. The guys I know that shoot them prefer the 6 groove barrels. I have shot them and really liked them accuracy and recoil wise. I believe the 6 grooves are a 1-14" twist rather than the newer 1-10" twist.
How I should have said is the 6 groove is the wya to identify the more prefered barrel.

Early barrels had 1:14 twist 6 groove barrels which shot the 110 and 125 bullets just fine with the H4227 loads. New barrels have 1:10 twist 8 groove barrles which shoot the 110,125 &150 bullets just fine but develope pressure a little lower charge weights than the old barrels . Which one shoot the best ? The one you have !  Both 30 Herrett barrels shoot fine but have slightly different characteristics for what they seem to like for reloads. I sure would not stay up at night worrying about which one to get. Which ever you find in good condition and at a good price is the one you should get!
