Cat Whisperer ask "what I planned to shoot?"

I have to start out kind of on the smaller scale to easy my wife into this hobby.

I am looking at the .69 caliber (1/12 scale 24 pounder) from Brooks-usa.com. I am planning to build a carriage for it.

I was a plebe at West Point years ago. While there I was on the Cannon Crew that fired the cannons for the rallies, demonstrations and football games. (WWII Howitzers)

Does it anyone have anything I should consider before I go with the 69 caliber I mentioned? Or is their another suggestion for a first cannon?

The 69  from Brooks is a good start, but we won't be responsible for the fact starting in this hobby may not have a stop.  ;D

I can see this being an addiction. I have been searching the web regularly to learn as much as I can and research the best bang for my money.

I am actually suppose to be "hosting" (storage for a good friends mother) an 1800's 3 foot deck cannon. It was salvaged from a shipwreck in the 1970's. My friends Grandfather helped sponsor the recovery efforts. When I get it later this spring I can post pictures.

Hi.I'm a newbie and you guys want to protect your freedom where possible.I live in the U.k.and no doubt would be sentenced to 25 years for being in the possession of blackpowder.I read your posts with honest jealousy but will continue to mess around with my cannons until the thought police trace me with their scanners.I'm a Scotsman living in London.

Welcome to our little gathering.  Glad to have a Scotsman aboard.  Mom was from Edinburgh. Never made it there myself, want to go there my self.  Supposed to be some pretty neat Cannon up at the castle.

Hey Guys,

My cannon is located in Elizabeth, PA (Near McKeesport for the Penn Hills fellow  :) ), but as of right now I'm at NC State University studying Nuclear Engineering...

I just sold my 6 pounder in my avatar picture to begin a project with a 1/2 scale Parrott barrel I'm ordering from Dom.

See you guys around!

I live in the great state of Mississippi right along the Mississippi River.

I have a 2 pound mortar I use to hurl juice cans and I am getting my daughter a golf ball mortar from irishman.

Also have a little cork mortar for the back yard.  Need something bigger back there to keep the squirrels down a bit.

Had a brief tour of one of the battlefields there - amazing to see the embattlements only a hundred yards from eachother (or less).  We'd love to see about a hundred pix more or less of the cannons/mortars etc. from the Vicksburg area!

You just might get your wish CW.  My son and his new wife (whom I've never met) are coming to visit on the 20th and one of the places we will take them is through the park.

I might even ask if there is a list of the actual field pieces left on the grounds.  I know a lot of what is there now are reproductions.

So stay tuned.

Actually I don't have any right now, just started one in the works, and ended up having two in the works. Have one 1.75" (golfball) that I've got in the works. And another (more in the works) for tennis balls/beer-soda cans. I'm mainly a longshot rifleman/reloader, with little t/c contender nut mixed in, but looking to expand my interests.  Always liked the big booms from the cannons and mortars at the few reenactments that I've gone to, so here I am.  Looking forward to talking more with you guys.
