I'm in Southeastern Wisconsin outside Milwaukee.  I have one of Austin's (classiccannons.com) golf ball coehorns.  Anybody in this area know where I can shoot?

Just plowed through all nine pages here and realized I hadn't chimed in. I'm in the Wagner Creek Valley of the Bear Creek Valley of the Rogue River Valley in southern Oregon. I'm nestled in the foothills of the Klamath-Siskiyou mountain range that straddles the Oregon/California border. DD knows this land well.
No cannons on hand, but have a deposit down on a GB howitzer, and e-mails out on two other projects ...

I'm in Charlotte, NC.
I'd like to build decent sized cannons and mortars, but I don't have a lathe.  Instead I'm making small things using a HF mini-mill as a lathe!

I don't usually post to threads this long, but then again it is still active sooo...

Hi everyone I'm in western KY.  I have two areas ready to finish out for model cannon shoots (upto golfball size).  My main intrest in cannons is 4th of July noise makers and new years salutes.  However this year I plan to enter the postal shoot, just to see if I can do justice to the art of aiming a smooth bore without sights. :D

Tim - thanks for the welcome!  I've got some construction pix and will post on some projects soon.  I'm about to be mostly done with work till fall and am just getting back into some projects that dried up when school started last fall.
By the way, have you posted somewhere about the piece in your avatar?  Going through old posts I've seen you talk about some projects but not that one.  Looks like a confederate Coehorn, but I'm no expert.

Keith - Sounds like we have some common interests - I don't have a good place to shoot projectiles nearby, so I'm looking for ways to (safely) make a big noise with a small package.  A GB mortar is definitely in my future.

I am originally from Michigan, but have lived in South Korea for the past 22 years (I first lived here 27 years ago).  I visit back to my hometown at least once a year and enjoy muzzleloading while I'm there (There is none to be had here in SK).  I teach Korean history in a Korean university and my main area of interest is the first US military action in Korea (1871)--lots of cannon fire then!  I have recovered many relics from that action, including shell fragments and canister shot.  In case you are interested, here is my web site on the action: http://www.shinmiyangyo.org

Thanks, Cat!  It's funny that living in Korea gave me such a great interest in American muzzleloading  ;)

P.S.  The other day I took a couple Japanese/Korean style matchlocks to my history class and even demonstrated slow match for them.  I put up a FB album for a few of the pics of my students holding my repro matchlock: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150171353342045.297149.625267044

Andy,
we do indeed!!  I'm sitting on 12 acres with several hills to shoot into (back stop)  Neighbors are mostly far enough away not to cause too much of a stir  :), if you find yourself headed toward Evansville, In send me a p.m. and bring your own cannon   ;)

What is an HF mini mill??

We're on 40 acres in Wyoming between Cody and Powell.  Have a 100' bluff at the back of the property to shoot into and a "proposed wilderness area" behind that.  Built my first gun in '68-'69 in Utah while attending college... a very unresearched, skinny, barrel machined from a 40mm military surplus tube.  Currently have four projects and trying to sell one.  Just ordered a 3/4 scale 1861 6#er and a Verbruggen from SBR for a couple of 40mm tubes I have.

We're just an hour east of Yellowstone... come and bring a cannon, see the Park and shoot into the bluff.  :)  :)  :)

Not worth the price of being arrested for it, but I'll bet the echo going up and down the canyon would be phenominal!   ;D

No canyon but we do get echo off the bluff... don't understand "arrested"... deputy "Andy" is part of the gun crew  :D  ... and Wyoming is kind-of the last bastion of American liberties... most other states have partially legislated them away.  Discharging any firearm in the county from whence I moved was illegal but not here... part of why I moved here.   :D

I'm just a little east of Magic Mountain in the north west corner of LA county, where I slowly make a Verbruggen 3 pound Townsend and a Spanish 4 pounder.

I have to admit to being a Redcoat, living in London (England). Interested in all things with powder in their bellies, but especially from the mid-nineteenth century. Pretty envious of the freedom you have with your cannon projects, here only criminals have firearms. There's an amazing ignorance in England about ordnance and arms, look after your rights!

If any of you are looking for a new project try Mallet's Mortar from 1855, only 36 inches bore with a one ton shell. It all comes to pieces for transport.  ;)

South Bend, IN

I'm building two currently. The barrel for the little one is nearly done, big one's barrel is half way. The smaller is 13.5" with a .750 bore. Larger is 48.75" with a 40mm rifled bore.

08-02-11 Update: I'm addicted! I have a gold ball coehorn, a .75 cal 14" cannon and a 40mm 48" rifled barrel project I'm building a field carriage for.

The Netherlands, about 20 miles south of Amsterdam, that city of vice.  ;)

And yes, we do get to have blackpowder cannon here, although you do need a special permit from your friendly police forces and the minister of Justice.

About to finish building a 2 cm (.787") scaled-down copy of a US 6 pounder this month, can't wait to try it out at the shooting range! Should create quite a stir amongst the regular crowd.

Take care,

Went through the posts fast and didn't see my name so I guess I may as well introduce myself. I spent 13 years in the Navy hanging bombs on airplanes, so my interest in ordnance is well fed. I currently live in Weat Michigan and I am the proud owner of Ed Harts first tube, thanks Ed, a welded breech 30MM "warthog" tube. Noise makes only, until what time I turn it back to him for mods he wants to make. Also have a .177cal Cohern, a Golf Ball Cohern, working on another, a 1" bore tube not mounted yet, working on another, and my brass Cheroot. You may say I am a bit of a fan, I am going to set my collection out tomorrow and snap some pics......
