I have yet to recover a bullet. The exit wounds with the 336 are a little bigger than thumb size, with the whelen.....that is a whole nother story! The last deer I shot with that bullet was a quartering shot facing away. the exit wound on the far shoulder was an oblong egg shaped hole about 5 inches in length and 3 inches wide.
There is quite a bit of difference in velocity. My 35 Rem 200 gr is going out at 2056 FPS and the Whelen 200 gr at 2880 FPS. But both deer were just as dead.
